Default The absolute worst mind numbing what were you smoking calls

The absolute worst nfl calls ever
The ones that make you crazy twenty years or more after they happened!
You have to wonder if the refs were on something…
It was as clear as day and they missed it ….
The kind of calls where the folks in the dining room were yelling at the tv.
What say you ?

Not the refs fault but I'd say the Bears drafting Trubisky in 2017 with the #2 pick was a pretty bad call.

The "fail mary" was the one that comes to mind, but TBF, those were the scab refs.

This one was terrible. Crazy no-call facemask-offensive-PI-for-a-long-TD in a close game that was also a SuperBowl.
It cost me a good bit of money (Rams won, but didn't cover spread).
...although it did seem to wake up the Rams, and they won the game.

Calvin Johnson. The original obvious catch to EVERYONE but the refs.

Last year Dallas Goedert got tackled so hard by his facemask he was out several weeks, somehow missed.

As a Niners fan, I still felt bad for them. If there was a year Romo, Dez & Company were going to do it, that was it.

Don't blame the refs on that one, blame the rules.

while not an all-pro by any means he was still pretty good during his Chicago days. His last 3 seasons (after his rookie year) he had 57 TDs to 30 INTs, 65% comp % and the team went 25-13 in his starts

Given the rest of the top ten that year, I have difficulty taking this response seriously.

1999 Bills. Doug Flutie leads the Bills to a 11-5 season. Big money QB Rob Johnson plays the final game of the season and plays ok so Wade Phillips starts Johnson over Flutie in the playoffs and the Bills lose first round to the Titans. I watched a lot of Bills games that year and I will admit to being a Flutie fan. He wasn't great and his numbers probably look pretty bad by modern standards but were fine for the era. The fact is that the Bills were his team that year, the team responded to him and he was a true leader.

His playoff benching will always be one of the biggest NFL coaching blunders in my mind.

Didn’t the Patriots bench a DB. Think it hurt them too.

To this day, I cannot think of a single example of a QB starting all the games during the regular season (except the meaningless game at the end), making the playoffs, and being benched for the playoffs (with, like, no injury or anything like that).

There was something going on behind the scenes which I guess we will never know.
