Default 2025 NFL Offseason Thread

For all your trade talk (or made up Tanner McKee talk), roster moves, etc

Where do Russ, Darnold, Fields and Daniel Jones end up?

I am here for the McKee talk (the real McKee talk). He will have suitors, and at the very least move up to #2 on the QB chart

Combine is almost here 16 days to go wow, and draft a little over 2 months away! Let's go.

I could see Justin Fields to the Giants.
Jones back to Minnesota.

If we start with Quarterbacks, Pre-Draft, who's going to be taking the field for each team in 2025?

NFC North:
Bears: Caleb Williams
Lions: Jared Goff
Packers: Jordan Love
Vikings: UNKNOWN

NFC South:
Bucs: Baker Mayfield
Falcons: Kirk Cousins
Panthers: Bryce Young
Saints: Derrick Carr

NFC East:
Commanders: Jayden Daniels
Cowboys: Dak Prescott
Eagles: Jalen Hurts
Giants: UNKNOWN

NFC West:
49ers: Brock Purdy
Cardinals: Kyler Murray
Rams: Matthew Stafford
Seahawks: Geno Smith

AFC North:
Bengals: Joe Burrow
Browns: UNKNOWN
Ravens: Lamar Jackson
Steelers: UNKNOWN

AFC South:
Colts: Anthony Richardson
Jags: Trevor Lawrence
Texans: CJ Stroud
Titans: Will Levis

AFC East:
Bills: Josh Allen
Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa
Jets: UNKNOWN
Patriots: Drake Maye

AFC WEST:
Broncos: Bo Nix
Chargers: Justin Herbert
Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes
Raiders: UNKNOWN

Any adjustments that need to be made to this preliminary list? I know there's talk of teams looking to likely upgrade (Titans) - teams looking to cut (Falcons) - but I'm trying to curate this list so it's to the best of our knowledge as of 2/11/2025. I put UNKNOWN if there was no one under contract who had previously started for the team before. Let me know if you think a team like the Vikings, for example, should have JJ McCarthy listed there instead of UNKNOWN.

Pretty sure Carr is done in New Orleans, and a decent chance Stafford is not a Ram. Also think that the Colts bring in someone to push AR for the starting job. Reading mixed reports out of Titans camp- some say Levis gets one more chance, som say they are taking Ward.

I can’t see Penix not being the starter in Atlanta, barring injury.

Yeah, I was going to wait until the Falcons officially cut Cousins to make that change. I tried googling who had QBs under contract (like if I should put Lock for the Giants for now, but couldn't make out if it was player or team option) then I figured just put UNKNOWN.

Kellen Moore, former OC Phila and LAC and Dallas, takes the job for head coach Saints.

_____________
...I can fill in most blanks / wrong ones for 2025 QB starters:

...
Vikings: JJ McCarthy with backup vet FA (ARodgers, Cousins, Russ, Carr, Darnold, JWinston, Fields, Mac, Daniel Jones, etc)

...
Falcons: Kirk Cousins Michael Penix (Cousins cut for March deadline $$)
Panthers: Bryce Young or vet FA (ARodgers, Cousins, Russ, Carr, Darnold, JWinston, Fields, etc)
Saints: Derrick Carr Spencer Rattler (Carr cut for $$ deadline)

...
Giants: vet FA (ARodgers, Cousins, Russ, Carr, Darnold, JWinston, Fields, Mac etc)... unlikely rookie QB

...
Rams: Matthew Stafford or vet FA (ARodgers, Cousins, Russ, Carr, Darnold, JWinston, Fields, Mac, etc)
Seahawks: Geno Smith (yeah, probably)
...

...
Browns: rookie (Ward) or vet FA (ARodgers, Cousins, Russ, Carr, Darnold, JWinston, Fields, Mac, etc)
...
Steelers: vet FA (ARodgers, Cousins, Russ, Carr, Darnold, JWinston, Fields, Mac, etc)

...
Titans: Will Levis or vet FA (ARodgers, Cousins, Russ, Carr, Darnold, JWinston, Fields, Mac, etc)

...
Jets: Jordan Travis (Rodgers cut $$ deadline) or vet FA (ARodgers, Cousins, Russ, Carr, Darnold, JWinston, Fields, Mac, etc)

...
Raiders: Cam Ward/vet FA (ARodgers, Cousins, Russ, Carr, Darnold, JWinston, Fields, Mac, etc)...
None of the 2025 QB rookies are good enough to start; they're all losers who'd have been nothing but flyer picks in 2024 draft. Browns or Raiders *might* be dumb enough to try a rookie under center, but doubtful with plentiful vet FAs out there.

"Also ran" free agent QBs will be Mac Jones, Daniel Jones, Minshew, Mariota, Trey Lance, others... not really caring about Zach Wilson or Davis Mills or Trask type dudes who are clear failures. All of those might end up NFL backups or unsigned.

If I had to guess right now, I'd say:
Darnold to Rams (if Stafford retires),
Darnold to Browns or NYG (if Stafford stays LAR),
ARodgers to Raiders or Panthers,
Cousins to other Raiders/Panthers,
Russ stays Steelers,
Fields to Browns,
Carr to NYJ (where he should've gone as FA a few years ago),
Mac to NYG if needing another.
Daniel Jones or Mac Jones probably Vikings backup signing for JJ? We shall see once cut deadline looms and free agency starts next month...

I would not be surprised in Nola is in the SB mix pretty soon.
They have probably the easiest division in NFL.
Some overpaid vets, but they will cut down fast. High picks.
This is one of the most impactful 2024-25 offseason happenings for sure.

It was a risk move by Moore to leave a winner, but he's as ready as anyone... still young, but pretty good results on 3 teams now (not really his fault Herbert hurt 2023).
I would take Kellen over Ben Johnson (Lions) any day; anyone could win with a stacked roster that is the Detroit offense.

The Saints took a gamble waiting for him, but I bet it'll pay off. (mongoloid Mike McCarthy was the likely contingency plan?).

Anyone talking about Rodgers if he decides to not retire he is not taking any job were he is a backup that won't even be considered by him nor any place were he would even have to compete with a young rookie for the starting job. If he's not guaranted to be a starter he won't go there. I also question if he would even go to a crappy team like the Raiders. If he can't go to a team like Pitt that could at least on paper be able to compete to win to get to the playoffs he could likely just say screw it and retire. He made plenty of money and he got the 500 career TD mark. He's not going to get the top yards or TD record so it's not like he's playing to get any records so there would be no point in playing just to get records or money.

Hopefully the Dolphins can off load Bradley Chubb to someone, even if it is for a late round pick.

Sucked as a coordinator and will suck as a HC.

Stafford and Kupp rumored to be heading to the Giants. I wouldn’t mind seeing that and draft Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter.

I haven’t kept up with him. Is he still hurt? There hasn’t been much news on him lately.

That's pretty obvious, but no vet wants to go to a crap team... until they do.
Rodgers' only choices for that basically guaranteed start QB job will be bad choices that can't protect him very well...

Raiders, Browns, Panthers, NYG, etc are the main choices. Even one or two of those won't want him.
Pitt or LAR or other teams with decent roster/coach are unlikely to want him - or have the cap space.

Aaron can choose between the junkers offering $ and start situation... or retirement.
Slim pickings for a fairly unlikeable guy who hasn't done much in 4 or 5 years now. Those be the breaks.

Kirk Cousins is a bit less talented - but more likeable - and he'll be in the same vet FA QB boat: choose start QB crap team vs backup vs retirement. (Kirk might choose backup, but unlikely)

Cap space won't be an issue assuming the Jets out right cut him. The new team can pay the vet minimum. I still think he hangs them up, but if he does push for one more year. I can see Pittsburgh and maybe the Raiders.
