Default The Lamar Miller Hype Has Gone Too Far!

As some on the forum know, I've been putting together the topps chrome rainbow of Lamar Miller for a few months now. A month or two ago word got out that he would be starting next year and everyone and their cousins wanted to buy low! Not realizing they've pushed prices up so high that when he finally does play, prices will come down.

Tonight I had a chance of grabbing my third printing plate. I got the first one for $25, the 2nd for $30. $41.33 would get the job done, right? WRONG. $42.

This after last week missing out on the only non-super card I need for the base rainbow, the gold going for $40. $13 more than I paid for the red.

This is more of a rant thread than a discussion thread. I'm considering putting my rainbow (goldless) plus 2 plates, base refractor and prism autos up for sale because I can't take the hype lol

Supply and demand my man... Supply and demand... You will probably be able to sell the others for a decent profit...

Reggie Bush signed with another team and Lamar Miller is pegged to replace him... Why would his prices not go up? Hype is a crazy beast. If he has a good year, expect everything to get to Doug Martin prices. If he flops, current prices (now until the season starts) are the highest they will ever be. If the Dolphins don't bring in a back via free agency or the draft you should expect to pay even more for the cards you are looking for.

Actually some of millers prices already exceed Martin... I'm not complaining about the hype.. Cards I picked up for $5 or so are now going $20, and some even more!

I sold his prizm gold #/10 for $125 recently. It wasn't worth keeping if someone was willing to pay that for it.

Doug Martins prices skyrocketed but then now are even as low as a David Wilson...
something from $250 going down to $125 etc like a topps chrome black auto isnt high.

so I agree, it doesnt make sense Lamar millers cards are prices such as Doug Martin, when doug Martin could be a leading rusher someday or all purpose yards leader, but not Lamar...

I should have been more clear, I meant Martin prices during his high point. Post seasons prices take a nose dive. Miller right now, on hype alone, is bringing in roughly what Martin currently is. This is factoring in the hope he catches fire and plays for a team with a much bigger following.

So its a bad thing when the prices of a player you already have a decent collection of go up? Or would you be equally as mad if he was third stringer and saw the field 2 or 3 times a game, and didn't get any pt to show his "true potential" so your investment could pay off? Half the time people here bitch and moan that card values are awful despite good performance on the field, then the other half bitch and moan when the value goes up? What do you expect to happen? Have your cake and eat it too I take it. Hype in the card world, ride the wave.

The thing is, this isn't an "investment", I was doing a small PC for a player on my favorite team. I'm one card away (minus the super) from the base rainbow so it's frustrating.

The same thing happened to me with Paul George. No worries football forum, you'll hear of him soon! Lol

Oh that's a difference.. Even as a Martin collector I sold out on him during that spike. Waited for prices to come down and now my collection of him is 10x nicer, and still cheaper than what I sold during that spike.

It is part of being a player collector. It sucks, but that's the way it is. If completing the rainbow means that much to you, pay current market value. If you are in it long term as you say you are, shelf it in hopes that the hype dies down some and move on to another project.

If you think it's bad now, wait until the season starts and he's tearing through opposing defenses.

Good thing I bought low..

Almost 20 contenders rookie autos and I didn't spend over 15 for any of them.

Not to mention the Sterling patches I bought for dirt cheap.

I too have bought in relatively low. Prices on his stuff has really spiked.. I like his crown stuff and anything on-card in Phil's uniform.

All I see is someone crying that they can't buy cards at the price they used to buy them at... didn't know that price of cardboard is static...once it sells for a price, it will always be that price...

I know I am not being a nice person.... but come on...maybe I should create a thread about why I didn't win the $330 million powerball lotto last week...
