Very interesting to see if people would actually rip those!

This is a brand which needs to be retired for the simple reason that the card design is too similar from year to year...

I was thinking the same thing, but it will sell nonetheless.

Well if the design changes it's wouldn't be Allen and Ginter.

Which is why Topps needs to retire it and replace it in the product lineup with a different vintage-themed product.

Why would Topps retire a successful selling product?

$$$$$ the product still sells. They won't discontinue until it isn't worth their while. Its all I collect. Once they stop this brand, my collecting days will be limited to previous years. I won't buy anything else personally.

Same here. When A&G dies, my collecting days will be spent back-filling

FWIW, the gallery at the bottom of that Blowout Buzz link is actually 2016 Ginter cards.

Obviously there are no base cards pictured in the article for 2017 but the mini Swanson card looks like there is a slight update with the Allen & Ginter lettering and the addition of a sort of curved/garland bordering encircling the player image.

I knew that Wordpress was acting weird -- it's fixed now.

That's a big difference from previous designs. Haven't made up my mind on what I think about it. I'm sure it'll grow on me.

It's A&G. You either love it or hate it. I for one, dig it, and will find myself gravitating towards products outside the norm, like A&G, Goodwin Champions and Gypsy Queen. In fact I try to open up at least one box a year of each of those.

I bought 4 hobby boxes and a bunch of blasters of the 2015 series. Overall it turned ok due to getting a Kershaw double rip card in one box, and a Griffey Jr framed mini auto in another box. I'm not sure I am willing to spend $90-$100 for a box again, though, but will keep buying the singles.

I think they would be better off keeping this product.. it is very popular..

Price is the problem.. Like them to go down the path of GQ

drop price to 60 bucks.. keep it set builder.. 1 auto per box..

Rips dont cost that much? Sure those can stay with price drop

If this was 65 a box the love would be much stronger.. 80-90 bucks is not cutting it

Correct. Price needs to drop. Everyone screaming it's popular sales wise, look at last years thread.....this is not as big as it used to be. Sales are not there like you think.

They wouldn't continue making it if they weren't making money. I'm not sure that a $15 price drop would equate to an offsetting increase in sales this late into the life of the product. That's cutting a lot off the bottom line for a product that has been out over ten years. Not saying you're wrong - I just don't know that a price drop would benefit Topps at this point.

Topps is making money. Boat loads of money. It's getting stale to a lot of collectors is what I am saying. Ginter audience is 1/10th of what it was 8-9 years ago.

I do think Topps could tweak A&G more than they have. For example, Gypsy Queen seems to change design a bit more year to year, and this year's edition is the best that set has ever looked.

As is, I have no temptation to do A&G every year, but enough people seem to enjoy it.
