Default Giancarlo Stanton deserves his own thread

Game without fans was a little odd to watch at first, but damn it felt good to watch some baseball again.

Stanton looked good! Not just on the homerun, but on the base hit too, going with that outside pitch. Hopefully the long layoff helped him get healthy - he's a fun player to watch.

Is it a bold prediction to say I bet he plays at least 90% of games this season?

Great to see him play well! He also slimmed down quite a bit, hopefully that translate to a healthier season with less weight to carry for his knee strains.

Slimmed down? What is he, 260 of pure muscle instead of 275?

AL East 3rd basemen should get their own due on Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe.

He crushed that ball! He’s a streaky HR hitter I predict another next game

I said this in the MLB thread:

Arod is not usually right but I believe his take on Stanton was accurate last night.

Stanton appears to be in the best shape of his career and laser focused.
I believe, as Arod analyzed, that the "no crowd" environment will be one in which Stanton excels.
Focus, see ball, hit ball.
No outside interference and most of all no booing when he strikes out.
Last night may be many of a series of examples.
2 - run 459ft homer to dead center, strike-out, RBI laser bead opposite field single.

If he stays healthy, and I know that's a big if, he'll be one of a few guys who benefits from no fans.

Surprised Stanton isn’t part of the Home Run Derby.

Stanton will lead the league in HRs and has a shot at MVP if no injuries

Glad to see any athlete return to 100%

The 100 game rest will be good for a number of older players.

Possibly - not sure what there is to talk about when a player isn't playing... Their instagram posts? Political opinions? (Please no one revive the 19 page Desean Jackson thread over in Football.)

I have a few decent Stanton cards, and I've always been a fan. I never wanted to pay the rates for his 2008 BCs back in the day, and the way his career has gone I'm glad I didn't, too much anxiety there. But it was very gratifying to see how he finally was able to put it all together in 2017 with a full season at full performance. Hopefully this year is more of the same, and we're left wondering what might have been with a full schedule instead of what might have been except for injury.

Yeah - I would say I was surprised to see how inexpensive his cards were now, but the hobby has always been about the hot player(s). The middle of that Yankees lineup is scary af, and if we can get to playoff time they could do some real damage.

His card prices dropped a TON last year. when he first signed with the Yankees after his incredible 2017 everything was nuts. However all it takes is a huge season and a Yankees WS appearance and prices will be through the roof again. If he hits 20 HRs this season he will have just under 330 HRs going into his age-31 season. Its annoying because he should have been approaching 400 by the end of this year w/o injuries and corona, but he still probably has around a 60-65% chance of hitting 500

Glad to see Stanton crushing again. Especially off Mad Max! I felt for him last year with all of the fair weather fans degrading him because he was injured. The guy’s HR numbers are otherworldly and he hits the ball harder than anyone I have ever seen in my life. Every time he steps up to the plate you just feel like the ball is going out of the yard.

As a former player, I can tell you that playing through injuries can be extremely difficult both physically and psychologically. The way back ain’t easy, especially when you have the weight of the entire Yankee nation bearing down on you. Hoping he has a killer year and makes people eat their words
