Default Jordan Star rookie question

Hi this is my first post on this forum and I am seeking some advice. My husband is interested in purchasing this card and I noticed the ones on ebay are all different some are graded with just the Jordan card and others are in a sealed bag. Ive done some research and I know to avoid fakes that you should only buy graded. But are the sealed bag sets safe to buy? Are all these examples that I found on ebay authentic? Thanks for your help.

I'm not an "expert", but I'm pretty sure all 3 of those are legit. The first one definitely is because it has been graded, but the other 2 most likely are as well. There are very few instances of the sealed bags being faked and if someone was trying to pass off a fake as legit it would be immediately noticeable. Good luck with your purchase.

This made me laugh out loud. It being graded means nothing at this point. Third party graders are a sham considering they cant catch altered cards and there are evene reprints that have poppped up in psa or bgs slabs as graded genuine. Were in trouble if people dont drop the "its graded so tis definetely legit" mentality cause thats not true whatsoever.

Glad it's so easy to make you laugh out loud.

I don't know this topic well enough, and given my lack of knowledge and $ involved the only Star XRC Jordan I'd feel comfortable buying is a BGS graded one.

I would never buy just the single Jordan XRC card that wasn't graded, but I would be comfortable buying a bag set like the ones the OP linked to. As I said, those are hardly ever faked and if they are it's easy to spot them.

Yeah, that sounds good to me for sure. I just don't know that market well enough to gauge those things which is why I just go to the easy default of bgs graded. But I would research a bunch to see the value comparisons, maybe buying the team bags provides better value?

The way prices are spiking for the Jordan XRC right now, especially in high grade, that bag at $24,500 will probably look like a bargain soon.

(1) I wouldnt buy graded unless its PSA, BGS or SGC.

(2) While those bags appear legit, the pictures are awful. I wouldnt buy bags of Star off eBay. You cant see in enough detail if the bags have been tampered with or are original. Only from a legit auction house would i dare spend that kind of money on an ungraded/non-authenticated item like this.

I’m 99% sure those bags are legit. If you would like to be 100% sure ask for a high quality scan of the bag similar to this one:

Has anyone actually seen a fake Bulls team bag for sale? I bought mine in the 90s from a reputable dealer so I know it's legit, but just wondering if anyone here has actually run across a fake being passed off as real.

Yes, several. There was one on ebay as recently as a few weeks ago. Be very, very careful with these.

I searched completed auctions and there haven't been any '84-85 Bulls team bags sold in the past 2 months.

Because I (and probably several others as well) reported it and it was taken down, not sold. You're welcome

Speaks to the fact that those holding clean copies and want to sell are grading. Have to be crazy not to, right?

Holding is a different matter of course. Those people aren't selling bagged copies either.

Thanks for all the replies. It appears the consensus is that if its in the bag it is an authentic card.

I would be careful with the Jordan purchase. There is a fake Jordan GAI 8 RC on ebay right now.
Check out the website at basketballgold.com which is devoted to Star Company cards and you should find your answer on that page.

How could GAI authenticate a fake?

This is interesting. Im learning on the fly here. My research shows is what makes it a fake is the "Reb" on the back. It should show as "REB" correct? Anything else to look for?

The Line above the "totals" should only go to the first dot, it should not cover 4

The same line on right side should be longer, not shorter like fake ones.

101 location should be up higher.. not down farther like fake ones.

There r some good fakes so be careful.

REB on back does not mean it's 100 percent real.
