Default Cleveland Guardians

Discuss: It's not a bad name - it connects with the city architecture and it's not controversial at all - good for them

Cleveland Baseball Club - take a page out of the soccer naming playbook.

I'd vote for Mayflies, personally

It's the name I wanted as an Indians fan

I know a lot of people won't like it... at least until they understand where it comes from.

It's still Cleveland so at the end of the day I don't really care what the name ended up being.

Are they sponsored by Marvel now?

Most new names sound uber weird at first.

I was just thinking that. They need to have a Guardians of the Galaxy night.

The name really sounds more like they are first responders instead of a baseball team.

Living in Cleveland, this name makes a ton of sense and I personally love it. I'll buy a shirt and a hat first chance I get. As expected, people are losing their minds on Facebook.

The name is fine - I'm glad they chose that over the awful Spiders moniker. The logos are an absolute dumpster fire, though.

Agree. Cool name, but they could have done so much more with that logo. Looks very minor league-ish to me.

The name is ok. I'm sure the fact that it ends in -dians played a factor. This logo though...

For anyone wondering, the name refers to a series of statues known as the Guardians on the Hope Memorial Bridge in Cleveland

As someone who grew up just outside of Cleveland (about 20 miles away), is a lifetime Cleveland sports fan, and worked in Cleveland until I brain drained out when I was 25....

I have to say that this is the biggest rube team name they could have chosen.

Leave it to Cleveland to name a team after some not very impressive, not well known, crumbling bridge that'll probably fall into the Cuyahoga River in the next 10 years.

They could have chosen literally any team name (that was PC enough, of course). But instead they chose to name the team after a landmark no one outside of town will be impressed with.

But there's a blessing in here from this... I get to finally let go of the franchise I knew and loved growing up during such a great era of 90's Indians baseball. I can feel no connecting to this generic franchise, and care for them the same amount as I do the Akron RubberDucks (which is none). RIP Cleveland baseball. Can't wait until Dolan packs it up and moves to Miami.

Lol, as someone with no connection to Cleveland I am enjoying learning about the Guardians concept. I now know more about the city than I did before, and ive been sharing the statues with people so they can understand why they are named that and most all think the statues are pretty cool!

I like the name and how it has a connection to the city - especially with those Guardian Statues are literally right outside the stadium.

I *hate* the font and the weird G logo. It looks like they looked for "1980s Rock and Roll Fonts" and went with that.

Personally, I would have kept the same font - but I guess you can't sell hats with a slightly different "C" that way.

Maintains the tradition of having used like a dozen different fonts on the Jersey throughout their history.

This is the most Cleveland response to the new Cleveland name.

Kudos.
