Who are some people you like that aren't on everyone's top 10 list?
I listen to a lot of different types of music. I like Jay Yuenger from White Zombie. There's nothing technically hard about his music it's actually easy to play but it sound great. That was my childhood. La Sexorcisto still sound amazing 30 years later. It's a shame they never made another album after Astro Creep 2000. He was definitely better imo than anyone Rob Zombie worked with afterward in his solo career. Mick Mars another very underrated guitar player. Wrote some killer riffs. I also like a lot of John Mayer's music but he's not really that underrated. Depends who you ask i guess. |

Johnny Winter was an amazing guitarist even when I saw him drugged up and near death. Chris Cheney from the Living End is an amazing guitarist. I used to attend live concerts a lot and there is a big difference from a great studio guitar player and a great live guitar player. I just love the sound Cheney gets and love the sound of Gretsch guitars in punk/rockabilly. Below is Cheney performing While My Guitar Gently Weeps for people that don't like my punk music.

John 5 (his solo stuff is amazing, His talents have gone to waste in Both Rob Zombie, And Manson)
Jeff Hannemen (He was the heart and soul as the main writer in slayers music, he just didnt have a cool head tattoo or brag alot like Kerry Fn King) Dave Mustaine One of the best lead players around, and he is the rythm guitarist. Been writing amazing riffs for 40 years. Jared james Nichols A relative unknown that tours as the third band. Amazing Blues rock player Think leslie west of Mountain Has an awesome Les Paul collection. Plays with no pick, a ton of feeling, and looks like a mix of a body builder and Ted Nugent.

I don't consider Jeff or Dave as being underrated. Both are well known and deservedly so. I had have to say East Bay Ray (Dead Kennedys) Larry Lalonde (Primus)

I just say Jeff because all you hear is Kerry King IS amazing! Kerry king is great blah blah blah...Kerry rode Jeffs coattails for years. Jeff wrote all the songs, and did most of the solos.

I'm going the bass guitar route. Nick Beggs, John Taylor, and Freddie Washington all have some of the best basslines I've ever heard and rarely get mentioned among the all-time great bassists.

I actually got to see him several years ago when he opened for Van Halen. I'm glad i went to that concert. I hadn't been to one in like 20 years and it's the last one i've been to since. |

Was going to say Kenny and Marcus.
I’ll add Richie Kotzen and Gary Clarke Jr. Gregg Tribbett is another one. I’ve seen Mudvayne a handful of times and I’m always mesmerized by his play. |

He’s very good and they put on a very cool show too. The only time I had a chance to see them was at a festival in Denver about 10-12 years ago. Unfortunately their set overlapped with another act I was more into(either widespread or maybe Big Head Todd) so I only caught a few tunes but was very impressed with him and the band as a whole- excellent musicians! I got to see KW Shepard on a twin bill with Johnny Lang years ago and both are fantastic blues players. I think they were both just a bit light on songwriting to make it bigger but very talented guys. One hit each in the early to mid 90s as I recall:
