Percentage wise, I see the lower end stuff going up more than the high end stuff. The high end stuff has already all been driven insanely high by people who thought they were getting in early before the record, when they were actually just paying way too much. Now they're just left to sell to each other

fwa was already 25k-40k $c depending on grade.

I sold a 9.5 bgs yg for $8k.

So they should be 50k fwa if he breaks record but that's market dependent.

If Ovechkin FWA reaches a hundred grand I’ll eat a hat.

Ovechkin is attracting the "I only collect GOATs" investors from the other sports, but the thing is even when he brakes the record I don't think anyone is actually going to consider him the GOAT. He will always be firmly behind Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, and Howe at a minimum, and plenty of people will argue for Messier, Lafleur, Hasek type players to be ahead of him as well. Also, there are plenty of people who will still consider Crosby to be the better player of his era.

So will the record alone be enough to main GOAT level prices for a non-GOAT, top 10ish all time player? We will see I guess. If he's like other Russian stars and disappears from the public eye after retiring and that probably won't help either

Only old fart Canadians think this way.
Same clowns who said it was impossible for ovie to sell higher than Crosby.

No one cares about any of those players in the big picture except Gretzky and now he won't even be the great one anymore.

Plus all their goals were in easy eras.

Just wait till Russians start manipulating cards lol

How do you know people won’t feel the same way about Ovi one day as you feel about those players now? And most of those guys have Ovi beat in points and Cups. You’ve said it yourself on here, up until relatively recently Ovi wasn’t that widely collected and his cards didn’t sell for that much. So is the record alone enough to keep up this demand for decades to come?

When Auston Matthews break Ovi’s record in 2035 I might pick up some Ovi stuff at a discount

Ovi is gonna get the Drew Brees treatment. Maybe he holds a key record but nobody thinks he's the true #1. Still a valued commodity and I think he goes up a smidge if he breaks it and down a lot if he doesnt.

Ughh...its "the" record.

He already has the Brady treatment without breaking the record.

Base rookies selling higher than Lebron.

Ovie may get the goals record but he’s never threatening Gretzky’s GOAT status let’s be real. Even if he takes down one significant Gretzky record he’s got 60 more to break to catch him.

Most of the goal record bump is being baked into Ovie’s high prices already, by people buying up his stuff on the heels of a record chase that they don’t realize is still 3-4 years away from happening at minimum. And if anyone is out there thinking they’re a genius for hoarding Ovie cards for a huge payday just remember there’s thousands of other geniuses doing the same thing. The flood of Ovie stuff that will hit the market at the same time will be the biggest card dump hockey has ever seen.

There's only 1400 hard signed rookies total...
80s records are a joke and everyone knows that.
That's what makes the record more special.

You can't say this without getting laughed at these days but I actually believe this... Matthews will hit 300 goals before turning 26 and his goals per game average is 5th all-time (ahead of Ovechkin). And his prime just began last season.

Stamkos was ahead of ovie at some point.
He hit 300 goals just as turning 26.

Covid era hockey will be gone soon and there's no way Matthews stays healthy enough or is motivated enough to have 15 more good years.

He's already like 40 goals behind ovie after 6 seasons.

Canadians won't exist in the future so long term all hockey cards will be worthless but we'll be dead by then.

Yup, once the big boys decide to take all of our fresh water we're history.
