Default Official 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers Thread

Saw this post in a Facebook group, taken from an interview on Money and Pedro’s this week:

Quote:
Yesterday David Vassegh shared some news from the GM meetings. He had a lot of info on a lot of issues but I’ll just keep it simple so it won’t be a long post.

1. He says Carlos Correa absolutely will not be a Dodger. Great news.

2. Sounds like the Dodgers are not in play for Trea Turner, he named 3 teams that are in play for him and the Dodgers weren’t one of them.

3. He believes Cody Bellinger will not be tendered, and will become a free agent.

4. He believes Joc Peterson may be coming back to LA if Bellinger is not tendered, said when he asked Boras on this… Boras declined to comment. D.V said with Boras refusing to comment makes this rumor likley true.

5. The Dodgers are looking to cut payroll, when pressed about the Dodgers possibly signing Aaron Judge, D.V said ”no”.
Smoke and mirrors?

6. The best for last. The Milwaukee Brewers were said to be open to trading players. He specifically named Willie Adames and Corbin Burnes! D.V said that Adames is a Friedman guy from Tampa, and fills the SS need and picking up Burnes solves a lot of rotation issues and brings in another ace. Diego Cartaya is believed to be on the block for a trade like this, he also expects that either Gonsolin or May will also be involved as he said it’s going to take a lot to get both of these players but mainly Burnes is the prize.

7. He feels JT will go out and test the market if the Dodgers don’t make a solid offer. Made some points that JT May be miffed that the Dodgers have paid players in the past and present who have had down years and May ask why not him. He feels that it’s 50/50 that JT comes back.

8. Tyler Anderson is probably going to decline the Q.O and is looking for years (3 years is what he said TA is asking for) rather than the 1 year and also doesn’t believe the dodgers want to commit to to him on 3 years.

There was a few more items but these were the major rumors and news.

Sorry, the early information was too good and too detailed not to post. Corbin Burnes would be a massive pickup for us.

Emmet Sheehan, the Dodgers' No. 22 prospect, did the latter in the Arizona Fall League to secure the AFL's NFP Pitcher of the Week honors for Week 6, while Glendale Desert Dogs teammate and No. 8 Dodgers prospect Jose Ramos was named the AFL's final NFP Hitter of the Week for 2022.

Why would they not want to keep Trea Turner?

He only led the team in steals, 2nd in the team with .298 average, tied with FREDDIE FREEMAN for 3rd in the team with 21 home runs, 3rd on the team in OPS. This was on one of the best teams OF ALL TIME that won 111 games.

Someones gonna have to really pay him

They're not going to give Trea, Corey Seager money.

What am I missing?
The Dodgers resigned Kershaw. Good. He should retire as a Dodgers.
Signed Shelby Miller on a 1-year deal. Looking for another pitching project.
Who else?

What's the plan at closer? - closer by committee?
What's the plan at third? - bring back JT? Muncy?
What's the plan at shortstop? Lux? Is it his to lose?
What's the plan at second? - Taylor? Muncy?

Are they going to bring up the young guys?
Where does Vargas play? he's 23.
Is it time for Amaya?
Pages just turned 22. maybe needs more time?

Possibly Phillips closing
Possibly Freeman/Lux/Taylor/Muncy in the infield with Vargas given a legitimate chance. I would not be too surprised to see JT come back.

Dodgers should: sign Dansby and Rodon or Bassitt
Trade for Bryan Reynolds

The Heyward is whatever. Backup is all he can be.

Syndergard is one of the Dodgers better moves. Cheap and on a one year deal, likely to improve with dodger coaches and trainers. Excellent 5th starter with upside potential.

Well I guess that’s it for Justin Turner in LA. My guess is the Dodgers don’t want to give out a multi year contract to someone who will only DH…if they really are keeping things clear to acquire Ohtani….

So that’s it. Our rotation looks to be:

Urias(and clearly our ace now)
Kershaw
Gonsolin
May
Syndergard

With some arms in the minors and maybe Buehler returning at the end of the year.

Still possible we trade for a CF, everything else is close to set I think.

1b Freeman
2nd Muncy
SS Lux
3B Vargas
C Smith
RF Betts
CF Thompson
LF Taylor

Be nice if they comment on Fanfest one way or another.

From what I've read Dodgers are saving money for the $500 million Ohtani contract after this year.

Dodgers people,

Seems like the Marlins are shopping around Edward Cabrera for a young bat. There’s been Brenden Rodgers and Triston Casas rumors. I would rather them keep Cabrera, but if they have to trade him, I feel like Cabrera for Vargas makes some sense. What would you guys think about that?

Id ask LA to also include a couple young low minors lottery tickets. Cabrera is still early in his development but has the raw stuff to be a perennial CYA candidate if he stays healthy and continues to hone his command.
And I really like Vargas..

As a Marlins fan I would not be happy with a one for one.

From the MLB Dodgers Top 30, every player designated 2022/2023 already on the 40-Man except

#30 Ryan Ward OF Age 24 AA

I'm sure the Dodgers have another ROY contender in there somewhere. I always thought of Muncy as a jack-of-all trades. The same with some of their Outfielders. Injuries are gonna be key. Gonna be interesting to see if Eddys Leonard or Jose Ramos show up and do well.
