Default Who were the hobby victims of the 2022 season (R.I.P)

I'm not talking about guys like Justin Herbert or Josh Allen, who might have under performance expectations, but are still on a solid career arc. Or even a Russell Wilson, who may not have much future value baked in anymore, but still has a debatable HOF career played.

I'm talking about the guys that were so bad that the hobby is has just gave up on them this year.

I'll start with an easy one:

Zack Wilson

Russell Wilson the biggest disappointment of 2022. They mortgage their whole franchise for him. Who else. He has set that team way back. I'm sure they could have brought in about anyone to win 5 games.

Yeah, when will teams learn to NOT give up everything and your foreseeable future for one player?

We’re talking 2022. Sure he could get traded and get another shot but he was extremely hyped and cost people a lot of money this year.

No doubt, but injuries happen. Had he not got hurt, he could be leading the team into the playoffs, you never know. I have zero doubt there will be a lot of teams interested in him. Saints and Jets could be 2 teams that are interested. Assuming they bail on Wilson, but Saints certainly need a QB. Also, Raiders too. If these teams dont draft a QB, trading for Lance may make sense

Jets would be interesting spot for him. I hope he’s able to recover and get another shot for sure

Jimmy G is a FA after this season. Some team will give him a starting gig

Yeah, Jimmy G will not be back.
And the time to trade Trey was last off-season

Teams that need a QB are:

Houston
Tennessee
Carolina
Atlanta (Ridder is not good IMO)
Baltimore (if they do not re-sign Lamar)
Las Vegas
Detroit (Goff is not the answer long-term)
Washington (Heinicke is a FA)
Indianapolis
Tampa Bay (If Brady does finally retire)
New York Jets
New Orleans

We are talking about 1/3 of the league that could use a young QB. After teams draft guys like Levis, Stroud, Richardson, Young and a flier pick on Hooker, others teams would trade for Trey. I am hoping someone does and SF resigns Jimmy G.

Really? I don't see it. 8 year vet? What team wants a 30 year old QB to be their 'franchise' QB? Same with Carr. He'd be a stop gap at best. But if those teams that need QB's badly for the future can draft guys. Unless there is a team that feels they can win right now and just need a QB, then maybe Jimmy G fits that role. But to me, he's like Carr- you have seen his ceiling, and it's not that high. I think Jimmy G would be best served making good $ backing up Purdy

NY Jets come to mind

Huh? There are a bunch of teams that have to feel like a better QB would have allowed them to make the playoffs. Titans, Jets, Colts at the very least. Maybe Carolina, New Orleans, Atlanta, Washington. If Brady retires Tampa may want someone who can extend their contending window. Thats a very robust market. He'll get a starting gig and won't be anywhere near affordable as a backup

Jimmy G went to a Super Bowl and is more than good enough to be a solid starting option. Before his injury this year, he was 7-3 with 67% completion, 16 TD's and 4 interceptions.

Derek Carr is another solid option, maybe not elite but still capable. Maybe a new team can turn it around for him and he can make a fringe team into a contender.

Honestly, 49ers should let Jimmy walk, and roll with Lance and Purdy.

I always think of Troy Aikman in a moment like this. 1-15 his rookie season (1989) with the Cowboys. I think for Zack, he's young enough to possibly change it around.

Now, guys who are just done.

I'd add Mac Jones to the list.

I am not a big Mac Jones fan, and overall for the year he's been a letdown, but he played well today.
