UD has been showing this off on FB and probably other places. I guess that means it is official, though I'm not sure of a release date yet (and no checklists are in the wild at this point).
I guess we can use FUMS as a shortened form. I had no idea Midnight Sons was yet another Marvel team. The team has had a few incarnations over the years and various reboots, in true Marvel fashion. None seem to have lengthy runs, so I'm not sure of the carrying power this has when compared to something like--the obvious comparison--the Avengers. But I know there are some Ghost Rider and Blade fans out there who are probably saving their allowance for this product. Like FUA, we've got a ton of parallels, 3x3, Medallions, and more Jambalaya. there's also the (quite welcome) original art for the 1-100 cards (and signed versions). So I guess we have the makings of the "Fleer Ultra" formula, perhaps?
Themed Inserts

Definitely features some popular Marvel characters but I really think UD is putting out too many Marvel sets at this point. Maybe they are paying Disney way more in licensing fees than pre-COVID which has made them feel forced to crank out so many sets.
Set looks decent at least. |

Marvel usually brings out Midnight Suns for Halloween, so an October release (next year) would make sense for this set.
Original art for an Upper Deck set is rare, so that's cool. The Fleer Ultra sets used to be original art, but they haven't bothered since Spider-Man. |

Weren't FUXM18 and the recent Fleer Ultra Avengers set both original art? I know FUA has some library art, especially for the inserts, but pretty sure the base 90 was new original art. Last edited by BJohns015; 10-10-2023 at 01:07 PM. |

I'm sure it is all under the guise of "catching up from covid". Premier just came out and it should have come out in 2021.

Yes, the first 90 in FUA was original art.

Oh yah, I was thinking Fleer Metal. Those have been rehashed art when the original sets had original art. I think pretty much all the Impel/Fleer Marvel sets in the 90s had original art. That was part of the appeal.

FUA is still not sold out on epack, this many months out. $22 a pack and $255 a box. Clearly the market does not seem to be valuing the set at these numbers. Drop since pandemic high is really affecting this, yet UD will price the wax like we are still in that boom. Secondary singles value is just not there.
I wouldnt be surprised if this is the same price as FUA...but I have a hard time seeing the value in it at a close to $300 box. A shame since the set and content looks neat, like those themed comic cuts. But a cool/interesting set itself doesnt make up the value of a 300 box.

I do like the return of the 3x3 puzzle! Always look forward to that in these Fleer Ultra sets. Wonder who the artist is

Does anyone know how long it takes for UD to develop one of these modern sets? Releasing FUA, this and Fleer Ultra Wolverine right after one another just doesn't seem to make much sense.

Basically the way I understood it: during Covid and lockdowns they didn’t stop developing sets. They were probably able to keep that going while working remotely. However all the physical aspects of printing, packaging and distributing the sets got massively impacted. I don’t think the intent is to release this much product this frequently, but they’re just catching up on the final steps of otherwise completed products. |

Yes the model for Fleer Ultra was all original art back in the 90s, and the modern era 2017-present Fleer Ultra is: original art base, some original art inserts, but the rest of the inserts rehashed art. FUA had most of its subsets and inserts all rehashed except like the Chesspiece set. All Fleer Ultra base sets have been original art.
I have to say, this set looks pretty cool content wise. Barely familiar with this genre in marvel but character lineup and darker theme looks cool. Looks like it was also a video game. I agree with above comments there is a massive glut or marvel cards on the horizon and the marvel card market, down as it is now, is spread too thin for these zillions of parallels and medallions to sustain much value. Hopefully the cost of the product will be lower to reflect this…ideally back down to pre-pandemic levels like $150ish to maybe 200 a box , but I’m sure that won’t happen and will be in the FUA range. No idea, especially since the original art aspect is there. I know Fleming is slowly selling off some of the FUA art (I think), but I have no idea how long ago he would have completed it.
Also, sketch blanks for FUMS and FUW (are we using all the acronyms now?) have been floating around for many months.

1) preorder sells fast, prices rise over time 2) preorder sells fast, prices lower over time 3) preorder sells slow, prices lower over time With the 3rd category, he basically said that unlike the 2nd, they usually drop precipitously and from what I understand the preorder per box price for distributors was sub $100 for this set. My guess: Within 3 months of physical release, physical prices drop to $150. Epack is listed at $150 per box. Physical prices from big retailers drop to $110 per box for this set. This thing sits on epack forever (since it’ll be competing with FUA, MM, premier, etc). Good luck upperdeck, your market saturation is catching up. |

I really don't understand why UD is releasing this set right now. Ok, you've got the designs, why not just wait until next year? This product is just being set up for failure.
