Default The Big Fundamental: The Official TIM DUNCAN (Timmy) Thread

Or is it Himmy? He has drawn comparisons to Mr. Russell for "leadership intangibles". His peak DARKO/DPM is the highest of the last quarter-century. He has 5 championship rings and came awfully close to a 6th when he battled a loaded '13 Heat/LeBron team to a full 7-game Finals (games 6 and 7 being awfully close). He had a great spin move in the post. While he isn't on Hobby Rushmore, his argument for Basketball Rushmore is quite strong.

The receipts:

The lack of attention to and respect for Duncan is crazy. Most undervalued player in the hobby of all time, by many miles.

Great player from a great era. Feel like the NBA losing Timmy marked the official end of an era.

Basketball-wise he checked all the boxes. No losing seasons, never missed the playoffs, should've had a quad double in the Finals. Just a solid player. No bias

My favorite player from what I know of him on and off the court. The respect Pop has for him says a lot IMO.

Not to mention what other players who played against him say about his game and his non trash talking mind games.

Oh man.

How I wish I could flick on TD and watch him cruise to 20 and 10 with some assists and blocks sprinkled in.

This dude actually publically said he wanted to face the Heat in the Finals after that season they lost.

And then whooped them.

He should have won a Finals MVP in 2007.

"System player" nah, he was the system

He definitely was the system. All time great and easy top 10 ever. His impact on the court created two additional hall of famers on the court in Manu and Tony P but also played a large part in Pop's eventual hall of fame entry.

I still need the 2012-13 Contenders Throwback Rookie for my set but I do have this one from the other 12-13 Contenders SP set.

nice look, please don't delete the photo (transfer to imgur?)

Anyway, I'm thinking of that 71% winning percentage for Timmy-led teams, claimed in the Clayton Crowley video to be the highest in any team sport. (And then that 1000+ wins with one team, presumably unbreakable.) Just how impressive is that in the fullest context?

Also, thinking in terms of team record, games-wise, in NBA Finals:
MJ: 24-11
TD: 23-11
Bron: 22-something

MJ had Scottie for all 6 Finals; TD's Finals teams had Admiral in '99, Kawhi in '14, and no other players near Scottie in the all-time rankings for the other Finals.

For winning basketball, it looks like you have Mr. Russell at C and Timmy at PF, I assume Bron at SF, Mike at SG, and an era-dependent PG (Magic for pre-3 era, Chef for 3-era).

This forum should really get into the Timmy-pump act, or else

We all know that.

That's why they were super hyped out the gate and were top 3 picks in the draft.

They also should have been named to the top 50 all time NBA players list. Forget not making the top 75.

They carried TD.

Hence why Manu started for all of those seasons and Tony Parker lead the Hornets to a title after the Spurs drove him out and wanted to start Dejounte.

Awesome player to collect. All-time starting fiver, in a lot of great sets, for relatively reasonable prices.

in my recent stack of pickups I have this one sitting on top. I think of the product as a forerunner of Origins including the thick sturdy stock

His resume is more impressive to me than most that are considered top 10.
