The new 2024 Bowman Chrome is up for preorder on Topps starting 08/15/2024. I count 142 Prospect Autos. That's has to be the most for a set right? What's everyone thinking on this one??

Oh my, fast counted 143 Prospect Autos. I miss the days where there was like 10 to 15 autos in a set.

Edit: OP mentioned 142 so that's most likely correct. Still, that's freaking insane!

For box releases I think it's just the base card + parallels in Musuem Collection to this point. So yeah, this is the first big one.

I never really paid much attention to the RC autos as Topps Chrome has always been the more sought after card but I see many second release chrome RC autos from the 2024 Bowman release. Is that typical?

Yes, I agree. I think this will be the first time in about 5 years I haven't bought a box on release day. I am sure there are several bigger names/sleepers in there but I am sure there is a ton of 26 year olds in A ball on this checklist.

Wow - 140+ prospect autos, and 90+% will be junk. It blows my mind that they sell enough of this crap to warrant the bloated productions. Are THAT many people still shelling money into breaking?

I know Topps/Fanatics doesn't care about long term success of their products but even if there are some great players that come from this release, it won't carry this product because you have less than a 1% chance to hit that player.

I would love to hear someone from Topps explain the reasoning behind such a large auto checklist. They would have been better off just creating another Bowman Chrome series and cut the checklist in half for each.

I'm sure there will be Mega Boxes for those of you that don't want to spend hundreds for a hobby. Either way will be a blood bath though.

140 players, at best 1 maybe 2 go on to be big time players and as has been shown over and over again, being really good isn't enough to carry card values.
