"What picture of Skenes should we use for this one?"

"How about that one where he looks confused?"
"Done"

- Who ever was in charge of this card design, probably.

He is looking at the scoreboard where it shows his W-L record and he is trying to figure out why it can be so bad since he is the best pitcher in the game.

Similar to the 206, I wonder if the small boxes (1:4 auto) will sell in a larger carton with 4 in it (and guarantee an auto)?

Just looked through the checklist. Really wish they would have included buybacks as a chase card in this release like they did with the 2002 and 2003 Topps T206/5 set. Those were fun and added more than just the typical auto or SSP chase.

I still have these in my PC from that release

I learned my lesson with these niche mini brands two years ago. Hit some long odds on my T206 box-beat the odds and hit two big name, low number SSPs, and a nice rookie auto, and still didn't break even on a $300 box.

T206 has a much bigger following than 205, too. Not feeling it. Secondary market just lacks overall appetite for the mini cards.

Funny because T206 was great for me last year and I still have sales on base cards from that release.

What’s strange to me is that Topps is using EQL on this when last year it took a considerably long time for T206 to sell out in a normal Topps website release.

maybe it's a plan to give all the people complaining about never winning EQL a win, while simultaneously using up all their accumulated EQL brownie points

Seems like this and the mid-level Disney release may be doing this next week.

Think Platinum will be EQL or just the upcoming Cosmic and Sapphires?

I'll try to build my EQL odds on this, but just 1 box so if I win I will not have massive regret, I'll just rip w/ the kiddos.

T205 wasn't that popular of a release when its two series arrived in mid-2003 and early 2004. There were none after that. Meanwhile T206 had three series and was revived more recently before its newest run.

I started collecting a 205 minis master set (5 parallels per) for Series 2 way back then because those boxes were very cheap and boxes also included a lot beyond just the minis. Each box then was a full box with regular cards, a mini per pack, a boxtopper box of minis and a pair of framed hits (auto/Relic) for far less than $100 SRP. I think I was opening them for about $55-65 apiece. Had all but one auto ... an SP Hank Aaron.

The autograph lineup here has some big names and chases that make sense but I didn't really dig into 206 hard in recent years, either. A lot more hits action this time around ... but not in every box.

I started collecting the 205 master set when it came out as well, as a kid the value was great in picking up huge lots of minis on ebay. I'm currently sitting at 2633/2777 (94.81%) on the complete master set (excluding the Bazooka backs).

I actually just set up most of my rarest minis on some 3D printed stands I designed for them, so it's fitting to see this post pop up today!

It definitely has its good inclusions and quirks to collect ... I'm just saying it wasn't a widespread hit back then otherwise it likely would have continued.

This entire set just feels like Topps throwing stuff against the wall as they get to their contractual 40 sets a year they agreed to make with the MLB contract. Now, with the success of Bob Ross, I can't blame them for doing fishing expeditions...but this set is a dead duck, it's just not going to have resale value. The mini cards from Topps Rip didn't have resale value, the mini cards from AG&C didn't have resale value. I loved those sets personally, but the hobby has spoken on this.

Looks like $59.99 a 4-pack box w/o the carton option. The website description makes it sound like 32 base cards + 8 parallels/autos/etc (so 10 cards per pack), but X and other descriptions make is sound like 8 cards per pack (so 6 base + 2 parallels/inserts per).
