I'm sure you've seen it. Card you want for PC or a rainbow pops online but its listed for 10x comps, seller is unresponsive, or has zero feedback. Has anyone managed to get the card and if so how did they do it? I'm 44 cards into a 50 card rainbow and this is the first time I've encountered it.

Got no choice but to pay the ransom if you can’t communicate with them.
Once communication is made, prices can be brought down just slightly, it’s tough for the buyer when it’s rare and the owner has no motivation to sell. Comps is really the best you can do to convince them. |

While communication can help. it can also harm one's effort. It all depends on what's said and how it's said. |

I need this card. Comps for non-jersey numbered units are right at $70-ish. Been trying to contact the seller for over a year unsuccessfully. I’m willing to pay over come since it’s jersey numbered, but not *that* much over comp. |

Yea..Sadly my first encounter with a situation like this is a 1/1 for a rainbow. Comps around 700 but listed for 7k. Zero Feedback no responses. I did see a seller offer come over for 6500 so maybe slowly the guy will realize how far off he is.

lol, my second to last ennis pickup was held by a bo member, but then I snagged it off ebay auction a few months ago and replied 10 years later "thanks for the easy pick-up" which no-one noticed and I have to explain here

I will be honest, I held a card hostage and the guy passed away without finishing the set.
I felt bad. |

You should feel better, now you aren't denying anyone joy.

My only story to tell is a 1/1 that I first saw on eBay at an insane price. I (mistakenly) sent some messages to the seller who (of course) wasn't nice and was expecting the moon for this card. I tried offering some other "comp" 1/1 sales trying to ballpark what I was willing to offer for it, but he wouldn't budge....so, it sat. I continued to keep it on my watch list.
I think easily 6+ months went by and then one day outta nowhere the listing ended, and lo and behold it re-listed at $0.99. I'm always a sniper, so I sat it out and I specifically recall being out to eat with the family when this auction was going to end. Come down to the final minute and I walked away from the table to place my bid (which was still at my original threshold I wanted to pay) and sure enough, WON IT. To this day I hope that dang seller realized it was me who originally messaged him, and ultimately won it at my expected price, not his. He shipped it out and never said anything further. |

Is it a star or random? If they are active on EBay may have to wait it out, they either have no problem not selling unless for their price or will eventually want to sell and you or someone else will get the reduced price. I ask if a star because if it’s some retired player it’s diff than a guy who may end up still doing great things in their career, if it’s something that has the *possibility* to go up in the future can’t blame someone not desperate to price it higher than it may be worth currently, even if they took it to the extreme

I've also had plenty of "arguments" with sellers on their eBay messages trying to convince them that their listed prices are unreasonable. Most of the time, I do find comparable ones that I can buy and not have to deal with the difficult seller, but I did fall for this one item several months ago. I had no choice, because it was a rare and unique 1/1, without it being identified in the card as a 1/1, and it fit my personal collection of my favorite player. As far as I know, there isn't another copy like it, unless I am mistaken and another one does exist somewhere. Anyways, for several months, I couldn't get the seller to drop his price... even told him multiple times to just put it in an auction so that the market can decide the price value of the item. He just wouldn't budge, though he was good about communicating. I finally gave up and gave him the ransom money. I still have no idea what the real market value of the item is, but I'm fairly confident I paid way more than what it's actually worth. |
