Is he still alive? So you kept buying cards for him expecting to make a solid commission even after there has been no response for almost two years? Lots of question marks here.

Have you tried sending an email with a "read reply"?

A few things here: I wouldn't take legal advice from a phone jockey at PayPal Commutation, huh? The guy hasn't been commutating with you? He may not have a phone in prison. So you are basically holding the bag for this guy? It sounds like part of your commission was a storage fee as well. |

So the other party has already paid for the cards and you're wondering how long until you are considered to be the owner? I'm really confused.

No I'm not. Its just frustrating that I have been trying to contact him over the last couple years when its not even my cards and it should be the other way around. I do understand he may not be able to contact me but I find it odd that he's read my text messages and hasn't replied.
Why would I fly from LA to Miami to drop off the cards? Again..He should be contacting me. |

if he has 10k outstanding cards in his possession, i have to assume there was alot more money involved. this takes a high level of trust and a strong relationship so it wouldnt be out of line to spend a couple of hundred dollars and fly out to the owner of the cards. he could go to the address and it may lead to a resolution. most people could do this online or via phone but the op obviously cant and im not going to waste my time solving this.

If I had 10k worth of someone's cards, I would fly to that location and see what's up.

Contact a lawyer and see what they have to say on this matter and they will be able to guide you on what you would have to do to cover yourself legally. You have no idea what his current situation is especially if he has spent this amount on cards and has not made an effort to claim them. Make every effort to get the cards to him and do some research on his name in the city and address you were sending the cards to. I wouldn't fly out to his location and do any investigation because you can do the same thing using the internet.
As one member here has already state, "I wouldn't take legal advice from a phone jockey at PayPal" I also wouldn't take any legal advice from someone on BO.

It's 2016, it should be pretty simple to track someone down. First off, are you both in the US?

Best advise, contact a lawyer to cover your behind. Who knows what could had happened to him. If he did pass as someone stated above, I would look for his next of kin and give the cards to them. However, I would let it be known what those cards are worth. But that is just my way of thinking. Good luck finding a resolution.

So many red flags here on both sides.
First thing that's a major issue is why in the world would you wait 2 years before getting some sort of legal help? You're in possession of $10k worth of this guys money, if I didn't hear back from him in a month I'd be calling a lawyer. You have the guys home address and name, have you done any research? Like just google the guy, look through local news articles to see if you can find anything that might help you out. Call his local police department and explain the issue, I'm sure they would be more than happy to hold the cards or find some way to get into contact with this guy.

Agreed even a basic Google search would bring up something FB, Linkedin etc as someone mentioned above contact his local PD. Nobody forgets about $10k so he's been MIA which going from what you said, his last response to contact was 2014? BTW did any of the mail you sent to his address come back to you as RTS or anything??
Is he military or anything? Or possibly something bad has happened to him. Pretty horrible to think but I agree his local PD is the best place to start.

I think you own the cards now, 2 years is way to long. There is only so much you can do to help, but if a guy is MIA for two years?
He never gave you a phone number at least? |

Well, I'll give you this op, this is a very different situation! It'll be interesting to hear what happens.... Talking to an attorney is definitely good advice here. Best of luck!

One police call is all you need. You ask the local police to make a trip to the address and see if he is there or not. Even the neighbours around the house must know something.

I agree but do not tell the police that you have $10k of the guys cards without consulting an attorney first. Tell the police the guy is a business partner and that you have been out of touch for a while. Tell them that he has not responded and you are worried about him. Maybe they can help, maybe not. Whatever you do, don't turn the cards over to the police. They may never make it to him(not saying the police will steal them. They just may question who's property they are and hold them).
