Default The Most Pleasant Performances of 2024 Thus Far

This surely won’t get as much traffic as the “biggest disappointments” thread, because who would rather be positive than negative? That said, there are some great storylines this year, of players coming around with the bat and on the mound, taking that next step toward stardom or into the realm of the elite.

For me, I love seeing Vladdy getting back to that masher we saw in 2021. And he’s not even playing in minor league parks—can you imagine??

It’s great seeing Gunnar Henderson avoiding a sophomore slump to become—at worst—a top-2 shortstop in the league.

And I’m quite pleased to see Hunter Greene’s growth. As long as he stays healthy, he appears to be evolving into a top-flight ace.

Of course, there are others. Who has you most excited and hopeful for the game’s future (as well as for your collection)?

Good list. How about Rooker looking somewhat legit? Not necessarily "hobby" legit, but he can hit the ball.

I'd say it's nice to see that Correa can still do it. Nice to see Juan return to an elite level too.

Brent Rooker getting a shoutout above is very well-deserved. Same with Bobby turning into full-time baseball superhero.

I'll add Ketel Marte. He has been so great for the Diamondbacks. Another super unheralded player that consistently produces, but doesn't get a ton of pub.

Ezequiel Tovar is having a really nice 2nd full season with the much-maligned Rockies. He and Brenton have been worth watching even as the team bumbles through another season.

On the pitching side, it's been fun to watch Skubal live up to the pre-season hype that followed him.

Rooker is a great call. As a NorCal native and someone who used to cover the A’s, I feel like I view all things A’s with an extra tinge of skepticism. But Rooker breaks the mold with his JD Martinez impersonation.

I would like to give a shoutout to the man who’s been carrying my fantasy team to the playoffs over the last four weeks: Lawrence Butler!

Jarren Duran has been one of the most fun players to watch this year.

Luis Gil comes to mind. Nobody expected this type of season from him. Sure he had a few bad games during the season but he has rebounded nicely. Without him the Yankees wouldn’t be near the top of their division.

Chris Sale is the obvious answer for me as I was convinced he was through and the Braves had thrown away their last/only trade asset.

It’s nice to see Winker playing better after a ROUGH couple years.

Logan O'Hoppe has been about equal to Adley Rutschman this year. Ben Joyce's new splinker has really elevated his 4seam effectiveness and his GB rate has creeped up to 58% in 23.1 IP.

Pretty slim picking as an Angels fan but at least we're seeing some results from Minasian's draft/trade strategy.

Rooker's cards aren't exactly cheap these days.

Based on his minor league numbers there is some legitimacy to what he is doing.

You can get his Topps Chrome rookie auto for <$20. I’d call that cheap for a guy who’s done what he’s done the past two seasons. With that being said he’ll be in a nursing home by next season so it makes sense I guess.
