So, a bit of a backstory on this piece.
Some of you know I'm a social studies teacher, and a few of you might remember that I'm a WWII fanatic. I absorb as much as I can that is in anyway related to WWII, and I absolutely adore the Greatest Generation as one that saved the world. Having said that, I think the Tuskegee Airmen are some of the best examples of that generation, and I truly believe these guys to be war heroes and the men who laid the foundation for crumbling segregation in this country. So, when Dreaming Eagles was released in March, I knew it was a must-read. Then I saw an opportunity with a comic shop in Baltimore where the owner was trying to set up signings with surviving airmen ... that was a no-brainer must have for me. So, I present to you the CROWN JEWEL CENTERPIECE of my collection: As a sidenote, one of the signers, Roscoe Brown, passed away 10-weeks after this signing. The grade of 9.6 is of absolutely no consequence to me, as I cannot see myself ever wanting to part with this book. I have had this poster in my classroom for years and showing my classes this book has spurred some great conversations.
