Remember hype is everything in this hobby. Once the hype dies off and the people who only buy and open to capitalize on the new, hot products move on to the next hot products, prices drop like a rock.
I bought my Ledecky base auto for under $400. I never expected to pay that little, for a card numbered out of 29 of the greatest woman swimmer of all time. I paid around $350 for my Phelps base auto. They were both $1000+ cards when they came out.
Even black and red refractors of the lower level athletes sell for under $10 and some even less than $5. Very rare you can pick up a card numbered out of 5 for under $5.
