As far as Deshaun Watson is concerned.... I said what I meant and I meant what I said: You can't "kick the can" more than 1 year down the road past when the player is no longer on the team. Watson is signed through 2026, then becomes a UFA (obviously the Browns can franchise him but that's not happening). The only way the Browns can "kick the can" to spread his cap hit beyond 2027 is if they actually extend him. He would have to actually stay a Cleveland Brown in 2027. Needless to say, Watson would have to go along with this. Also needless to say, this would cost Cleveland a lot of money - both real money and cap dollars - not to mention a roster spot. DeShaun Watson is one of the worst signings in NFL history. Anyone in here think Cleveland is extending him? Because unless they do that, there's no "kicking the can" past 2027. All those void years accelerate to 2027. Last edited by Fenway55; 03-12-2025 at 01:41 AM. |
