Ive been out of the star wars game for a minute but I dipped back in.
What is the difference between silver, gold and black foil sketches? I figure theybare all 1/1's just wondering is it artist skill level? Example attached. Thanks in advance for your help! ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-S928U using Tapatalk |

I can speak to Topps in marvel which has this foil colored coded sketch stock, not sure if it’s the same in SW.
Imo it creates value largely based on being a rarer hit in the product. Say black is toughest and silver is easiest. Then black sketches are harder to pull than silver sketches (at the set level), yet each individual sketch is obviously equally hard to pull being a 1/1. I mean I guess there could be a rough correlation between nice-ness of sketch and the sketch foil color, but not always (I recall an amusing post on FB where someone was pointing out Ash Gonzales- famous marvel sketch artist- was drawing on the lowest tier stock in some Chrome set). It’s just another way for Topps to create a silly type of scarcity and treat sketches like other rare hits/parallels in a product vs just viewing it as a 1/1 art card. Ive noticed in marvel, Topps sketches even bad quality ones can for a lot since theyre being looked at as rare hits (wow, 1:1000 pack hit! etc) vs the quality of the art itself…hence irrational prices they go for.

The Stellar Art Cards are reproductions of sketch cards included in the set if I understand correctly. As to the foil versions, I agree it's all a numbers game. Instead of sketch cards 1:192 it seems to carry more weight with breakers to let them say "silver foil sketch 1:500, nice hit!" & "Black Foil sketches are 1:750!".

Thank you all for the responses. In my head I had it as a situation where better known artist were in the Moser scarce foils.
But for breakers and the like, it makes more sense! I appreciate all the responses. Sent from my SM-S928U using Tapatalk |

The top two cards are reproductions, not original art. FYI.

There are great sketches in the "lower" tiers, ofc, but if you see like an amazing base sketch most likely they are newer to the program and will move up to foils in subsequent products (this year Franklim Teixeira and Craig Deakes started submitting sketches and prob move up in a product or two). |

Rookie sketch cards next?
Oops, maybe I shouldn’t have put that idea into the ether.

Yeah i totally understand that. I just happened to have a picture of all four together.
I like the numbered reprints but was very happy to get two sketches and on top of that being sketches my wife and son recognized. Sent from my SM-S928U using Tapatalk |
