Default What athletes do you enjoy hearing speak / get interviewed?

While sorting cards this morning I was watching some more recent interviews on my phone. I came across one with Ozzie Albies and was actually very surprised by how well he spoke (I was not sure if his English would be polished or not) and his knowledge on hitting mechanics and the game itself. One of my favorite guys to listen to is Pete Rose. I will try and find the video, but he describes what it was like hitting against Koufax and other legends in his day and it is a fun listen. Another is Chris Archer, who I think will end up in broadcasting after his MLB career because he has some major talent. I have many more, but I want to leave the field open for others. Let’s hear them! Who are some people you really enjoy listening to?

I appreciate the free willing Joey Votto. Never afraid to speak his mind.

Chris Archer. Very well spoken. Gives more than the typically canned responses like... "just trying to do my part", "It's all about the team", etc. Some of these guys come off like they are reading from the same script. They are just saying what they are supposed to say. Archer gives well thought out responses and he's articulate. He has a future in the booth if he wants it.

CC Sabathia is one of my favorites. His R2C2 podcast is always a great listen.

I will echo the Chris Archer statements. I happened to catch a Rays game the other day and they were interviewing Archer as the game was going on. His analysis was spot on about what hitters are looking for now when they come up to the plate and was even able to be critical of his faults this season. I was actually surprised that he answered the question so truthfully.

For reasons completely different than those listed, I loved Rickie Weeks interviews here in MKE back in the day. Only because he said the words "you know" in literally every sentence. While watching a game with a couple of buds during his peak years, he had a walkoff hit and did the post game interview. We decided to take a drink everytime he said "you know". The two minute interview ended up in two beers apiece...

George Springer immediately comes to mind for me, since he's worked so hard to overcome his stutter.

LeBron, Saban (if the team is down at half), Pop.

No NFL players or coaches. they never have anything worth saying.

Ex-Steeler Max Starks. Not only is he very intelligent, his voice is smooth as silk.
Current Pirate Steven Brault. Very clever and quick-witted.

Mune Kawasaki was always fun.

Also I honestly love hearing Belichick when he actually gets a good question. Guy always is down to talk football if it's a thought out q

Love the responses! Just checked out Billy Hamilton and had no idea his voice was like that! Just watched a few George Springer interviews and I like everything he does for children. The guy has a lot of courage. Going to check out Hank and Votto soon! Keep em coming please!

Can't think of any athletes, but I heard FP Santangelo do color for the Nats for the first time last year and he instantly became my favorite current commentator.

Actually, I like Bryce Harper. For all the stuff that irritates me about him, he does take the game seriously. The "clown question" quote I thought was on point.

Mike Tyson takes some beating imo. I'm not even a fan, Holyfield was my boy, but Tyson has always been intriguing and fascinating to me. He's not got the most masculine voice but we know what a ferocious character he is. He's usually very candid in his interviews too.

I remember the spring training game this year that ESPN had on where they had Mookie Betts live miked. They were talking to him while he was in the outfield. A ball was hit in his direction and he kept right on going as he was chasing after it. Great TV.
