Arrow Rolling Thread: Trimmed & Altered Basketball Cards in PWCC's May Auction

This doesn't even begin to compare to the number of trimmed basketball cards that PWCC has sold, but active listings are a higher priority to me than completed ones.

Incredible job again. As usual.... if anyone can help track owndership of the cards to discover who perpetrated the trimming.... that's the best thing that can be done in these situations.

For every card in this thread, that person is PWCC. I know that crosses the boundaries of confidentiality for their business, but it would be nice to know what further actions are being taken. Taking the cards down is only a temporary fix.

For now, that's all we can do is take them down. More great finds by 312.

You know I agree.

But if anyone can find who submitted them to PWCC that's just as good.

For sure. This has been your approach in several of these situations and I think it's spot on.

Meticulous work -- thank you for this and your prior posts -- and of course highly disturbing to those of us who care about the integrity of this hobby.

If they stopped taking cards from the big trimmers as of this month, there's a bunch of other guys still using PWCC.

Great stuff again. Looking forward to PWCC’s removal of these from the future auction and their disclosure of efforts to remove these cards from the hobby.

I mean, look how much room is in the holder... James Beckett himself must have submitted that one. Or he personally graded it for SSI.

I assume trimmers now who get caught just have their friends submit for them.

If it’s the same people, they figured that how to do that really fast. I actually believe that this auction was closed for consignments before most of the recent threads here. Therefore, I think there’s more than 4 trimmers.

thinking.

should we set up a website for this where we can record all the stuff that has been discovered? a rolling list of Player/Card/Serial etc that shows pre/post and history?

would this need much custom work? im sure someone here would know if we could get away with easily cataloging this? can we just use an ecommerce function n strip out the buying function and list all the cards that way?

I've worked on a text version (although I need to go through and add the new ones) Another poster had a site set up about a year or two ago, but it's not active now. I don't think it would be overly difficult, but it's not a project I want to head at this point (and websites are not really in my wheelhouse).

Great work by OP. Just shows how rampant the fraud is, especially looking to take advantage of a bubble in card prices. Disgusting.

I am setting one up. ETA summer 2019. I don't want to announce the details until it's ready to roll out.

Default Rolling Thread: Trimmed & Altered Basketball Cards in PWCC's May Auction

With repeated clearcut evidence that trimming is rampant and that the technology to do so has clearly outpaced the ability of both PSA and BGS to detect it, why do people still pay such a high premium for BGS 9.5-10 and PSA 10 cards? It makes no sense to me. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. The cards that we know about are only the tip of the iceberg.

The crazy part is that to a lot of collectors, it lures them into a false sense of security. They feel it’s safer to buy a graded copy.

Over the years I’ve become more and more weary of buying graded stuff because it could be used to cover up patch forging and trimming among plenty of other issues.

Are you sure that the technology has outpaced PSA / BGS or are they on the take?
