Default Windhorst: Warriors Intend to Offer Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson Max Contracts

Talk about a silver lining to the injuries.

By all accounts, KD much more likely to stay now. KD-Steph-Klay could be together for years going forward.

As long as Kawhi sticks with Raps, a lot of fun battles ahead. Imagine a rematch at full strength...

Tie up all your money on an aging curry that can’t lead and 2 players that will be missing a season coming back in their 30’s at who knows what level after Achilles/acl tears. Warriors are done.

Paying the super max to Kevin Durant would scare the crap out of me if I was a Warriors fan...

You're going to be paying him 220 over the next 5 years... he's going to be $45 million dollars a year at age 36 coming off the worst injury you can get as a Basketball player

I realize he's a much better player but this has John Wall written all over it

Klay I would absolutely max out.

I thought this might help the Dubs because they might get Klay at a discount.

Getting both at the max is not good. Even if both come back 100% healthy 2 years from now.

Couldn't have dreamt up a scenario where KD sticks with Dubs, but beloved... pretty stoked. Offseason will be big.

Years going forward might be true...

But you realize the next time Curry and Durant even see the court together you're talking about a 33 and 32 year old respectively right?

If they're doing this, they'll probably tank in the next season in order to draft a good supporting cast.

You are talking something like a $380 million payroll for the 2019-20 season with luxury tax.

Shooters can shoot. Larry Bird shot over 40% from 3 at 35 years old.

Yes I understand their move to a new stadium will offset that amount, but that is a huge amount for a team that would be lucky at best to make the playoffs. And that is just for next year. It will continue to increase every year.

Sure. I'm not saying they need to retire.

Them being the same team in 18 months is simply not realistic with Durant coming off this injury and age just being what it is.

Man, just tell Curry to take the year off next year, and come back to the 2020-21 season with a top 5 pick and Curry/Klay/KD coming back 😂

Sure shooters are still going to be able to shoot, but who are they going to be able to guard?

The 15-19 Warriors are the weakest "Dynasty" in NBA history.
  • Beat LeBron and a bunch of scrubs year 1
  • Cavs came back to win being down 3-1 against the "greatest team of all time"
  • Warriors cry to KD in the parking lot because 3 all-stars weren't enough to beat the Cavs
  • Win the next 2 because they have far and away the greatest collection of talent in the NBA
  • Injury luck turns on them still have chances to win but Steph Curry isn't clutch.

For how much talent they've had over the past 5 years they're certainly last on the list of NBA dynasties between the Lakers/Celtics/Bulls.

EMBs reign of troll threads are coming to an end

They both deserve max contracts. I wouldn't be surprised if KD leaves for New York though - I think he has wanted to leave San Fran for awhile and has other business interests in NYC.

I keep flip flopping on Durant, because his greatest two weapons are his length and his mid-range game. He's still going to be able to shoot over the top of most defenders. Yeah, he needs some lift for that, but I don't know...I can't call it, I guess.

He's the GOAT if that's what you were asking. Objectively the Bulls run was way better than the Warriors. The 60s Celtics were better, the 80s Lakers were better, early 2000s Lakers were better.

The Warriors are probably better than the 80s Celtics tho, so maybe not last.

Edit: can't believe I forgot the Spurs... They're certainly better than the Warriors
