We may reach an all time low on all three of these cards.

I'm really having a hard time trying to figure out what Topps' strategy is with the checklist.

Assuming that Topps is trying to sell as many cards as popular, it would seem to make sense to include more popular players rather than nobodies.

For example, as a Giants fan, I'm trying to figure out why Dereck Rodriguez and Evan Longoria have gotten cards, but Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Juan Marichal, Will Clark, Barry Bonds, & Tim Lincecum have not.

Common sense says that the more popular the player, the more cards you'll sell. And with each team getting roughly five cards a year, you're not going to run out of star level players anytime soon.

Heck, if you're a Braves fan, for example, how do you explain that AJ Minter, Ender Inciarte, and Nick Markakis have gotten cards, but no Braves HOFers have (Aaron, Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Chipper Jones, etc.)?

I really like the selection this week. CY candidate, rising star, and high profile rookie. Lacks superstar power but no scubs.

Aaron has and so have Alcuna, Albies, and Freeman. You cannot have a set of just stars, but the Braves top players now and the top player of all time seem to be covering it quite well. Freeman is looking a lot like Larry's career path.

Heyward PR of 2573. One less than Sandoval.

In addition, I know that Topps has restrictions on many MLB "legends," due to their "Rights Representation" by either a family (for instance Mickey Mantle) or by an organization (for instance, Curtis Management Group - CMG Worldwide). I recall "Cam Brady" posted a link to CMG a couple of months ago I found super helpful (www.cmgworldwide.com/clients/) -- their list of clients is flat-out amazing...

It's not completely explicable with Topps, and I do not know of any location or information which states which players they have contracts/agreements with, and which they do not. We know they must have some agreement on CMG client Jackie Robinson, since Topps keeps churning out cards with #42 highlighted (including TLS #42). There are others whom Topps seems to have some relationship (Cobb, Gehrig, Feller, and Banks have all appeared recently in the '150 Years of Baseball' set), but have not been used in yet in TLS.

I am a full-TLS collector, and my impression is that Topps includes "nobodies" because (like Series One, Two, & Update, or Heritage, etc.) the "adventure" of collecting is getting some card you think is a nobody who someday becomes a somebody, and has a low print run, thus making TLS a timeless and sought-after set for many decades to come. I think this is the intent, even if it makes pathetic weeks like this one (#71, Morton, Rodgers, Anderson) so hard to collect, because all three players do not inspire me as a collector.

But like many of you, I will keep plodding forward because after 200+ cards, I still find this set to be one of the most fun to collect, preserve, and hopefully (someday), hand off to my grandkids.

Brendan Rodgers is out for this year and maybe the start of next with shoulder surgery. Not a RC for me.

If you follow the link to the individual player's card in the TLS Archive, you can find the PR for the card in the Specs section. I included a picture for reference.

(208) Craig Biggio - 2,680 (PR)
(209) Cavan Biggio - 2,972 (PR)
(210) Jason Heyward - 2,573 (PR)

At a weekly PR of 8,225 - this makes week #70 the lowest PR week for TLS since its inception. But, it seems like week #71 will be even lower...

Maybe not. People over order the week after a low print run.

Getting to the point that going to the site on release day is a waste of time given the dysfunctional links, missing content, etc.

I'm with you all the way, but I have no kids, so I plan to dump my complete set in the Hudson River when the time comes. I'll have someone let you guys know once I have. Print run goes down by one on every card...

What do you think the eventual bottom will be? 1000 sets? 500 sets?

I'm getting into this set (and collecting in general) very recently, and I've falling in love with this set. So far I'm picking up what I can on eBay and COMC, but I can't afford the 100+ cards I missed out on and/or can't afford right away. I've decided to more or less sell everything I don't care about on COMC and focus on this set.

For all the same reasons I'm getting back into collecting, this set draws me in... They're beautiful "retro" looking cards, with a documented (and relatively low) print run for exclusivity, and you don't have to worry about a reprint of all the greats every year. I also like that they only release 3 a week so guys like me can catch up.

I'd like to think I'm "investing" in this set (buying dupes of cards I think will be sought after) but worst case it's a unique and eye pleasing set that I can give to my nephews to continue some day.
