Default Tyler Skaggs Update

https://www.latimes.com/sports/angel...s-rusty-hardin

Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs had the opioids fentanyl and oxycodone along with alcohol in his system when he was found dead in his Texas hotel room July 1, according to a toxicology report released Friday by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

The cause of death is listed as a mixture of “alcohol, fentanyl and oxycodone intoxication with terminal aspiration of gastric contents,” meaning Skaggs, 27, essentially choked on his vomit while under the influence. The death, according to the report, was ruled an accident. He was found on his bed, fully clothed, and there were no signs of trauma.

The Southlake, Texas, Police Department is investigating the death, and a statement from Skaggs’ family issued Friday mentions that an Angels employee may have some involvement.

The statement: “We are heartbroken to learn that the passing of our beloved Tyler was the result of a combination of dangerous drugs and alcohol. That is completely out of character for someone who worked so hard to become a Major League Baseball player and had a very promising future in the game he loved so much.

“We are grateful for the work of the detectives in the Southlake Police Department and their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Tyler’s death. We were shocked to learn that it may involve an employee of the Los Angeles Angels. We will not rest until we learn the truth about how Tyler came into possession of these narcotics, including who supplied them. To that end, we have hired attorney Rusty Hardin to assist us.”

Fentanyl is something not to play around with. Well, you shouldn't play around with any drugs, but that one is gonna kill you. Ive got some of the patches for my back pain, but I dont use them.

Don't know if it was physical or emotional pain he was fighting but
that's a serious combination of drugs.

Wonder if he got hooked to pain meds after surgery a year or two back and instead of weaning off, he kept chasing the high. Very sad all around. I wish we would find a better way to manage pain.

There have been numerous reports about counterfeit oxycodone pills showing up containing fentanyl, they are claiming an Angels employee may have some involvement, Skaggs might have been given tainted oxy's.

Anyway you look it, it's yet another opioid victim.

Not sure how factual this is but I read that fentanyl is such a powerful drug even in low doses that getting even a trace amount of powder on your skin is enough to become a lethal dose. First responders to overdose scenes have to be extra careful to wear gloves and not touch anything.

Hate to speculate but this is what I thought when it happened and even more convinced now.
A large majority of fentanyl overdoses are counterfeit oxy sold on the street. The DEA and customs has reported seizing hundreds of pill pressing machines being imported from China selling to the black market in the last few years.
I seriously doubt he took it knowingly.
Very very sad

The tox report shows oxymorphone as well, which the FDA banned a couple years ago.

Street opioids are commonly laced with fentanyl or sufentanil to provide a stronger addiction.

Wasn't there a reporter/website that reported drug use as cause of death early on and got raked over the coals for it?

But.... he DID take it knowingly. Whether it be pill form or otherwise. Drug dealers aren't scientists - they don't mix oxy and fentanyl, so if he had both in his system, he took two separate substances and then got hammered.

Personally knowing other young men who have died in this exact same way, it's unbelievably sad for him, his family, friends, teammates, fans... It's tragic, but I'm near certain he knew what he was taking, had too much, respiratory system failed and his body couldn't fight through it. Opiates are the devil

If I'm reading it correct, it makes it appear that the mystery employee is part of the investigation into who supplied the pills.

He might have taken oxy knowingly, but not fentanyl. Read above.

Not neccesarily. He could have been taking oxy(perscribed or otherwise) ran out when on the road, asked a team assistant (gofer) to help him score and bought what looked like oxy but actually was a homemade pill made from fentanyl. From reading about this last year it said that a dose on fentanyl is literally pennies when purchased in 50 gal drums that may or may not be available nowdays from the Mexican drug cartels, who are famous for seeing a new market and jumping in.

Mexican drug cartels > El Chapo > Jeffrey Lichtman > Brent Huigens > PWCC.

It all comes full circle.

When a drug is measured in Micrograms instead of Milligrams, you know it’s powerful stuff. I had to administer Fentanyl to my grandma who was on Hospice care and the nurses couldn’t stress enough how dangerous it is. Very sad state of affairs.

Texas one of the obvious distribution centers for these counterfeit pills, I had the same thought process on the (gofer/ Angels employee) being the potential source.
