I think if you read those the warning signs are there that is was wishful thinking to assume the box was substantial. A few members clearly stated it but trusted the assumptions of the masses instead.

Next time I am going to purchase something, I will call around to suppliers and ask if the item I'm looking at a picture of could possibly be sourced for the price being offered to me. Your sarcasm is masking the fact that if the cardboard box had come out a bit blacker, since apparently they did not have the non-more-black level pictured in the mock up, it would look exactly like the picture.

I’m not saying you can’t be disappointed in the box, it’s lighter than pictured for sure. I’m saying to complain about the free vehicle your purchase came in is being ridiculous at a certain point. Just like this conversation has gotten.

Didn't purchase one, no dog in the fight. I thought I also read people were mad because according to the email the received from him, there was a delay to assure the highest quality for the box, which made people even more upset because obviously the box is worse than advertised. On the other hand, I could've sworn the box pic showed up after the presale was done? Maybe not, but if it was, you weren't expecting a box in the first place when you ordered the card. Me personally, the box wouldn't have bothered me much, but I can understand why it did for some.

The beveled top edges definitely make it look like a wooden box in the rendering. The more I look at it I can understand both sides of the argument. But either way, folks were definitely excited about the box at the time and thought it was wooden or more premium than cardboard. I know I assumed it was but I never looked closer because I didn’t plan on buying one.

The box doesn’t close or present like it does in the picture. If the pic was of a box like the one delivered, nobody would have been confused. It’s not just the coloring.

Ok, sorry if I was being a jerk. Internet brings out the sarcasm. Just ask yourself, if you were JK5’s friend and you were having a beer with him, and he showed you the box he intitally shared vs what was delivered, what would your reaction be? I’d laugh pretty hard and tell him he had a mess to clean up. I wouldn’t tell him this wasn’t his fault and people need to do their research on the prices of wood boxes.

It’s not some moral thing, it’s just he dropped the ball.

I mean it depends on materials, but a custom top would be problematic. Plastics would be reasonable, maybe. After seeing the picture and the final product pictures the edges that make it look “wood” are just fading that is suppose to give it that faux weathered look. But I’m going off memory at this point, could be wrong.

As to the whole JK5 box thing: I don't care too much, I paid for the card, and a nice box would have been a bonus. It seems if they are assembled properly then they are actually pretty good looking. I do understand why some people are upset but they need to settle down with "scam" accusations.

I pay the same price for Ermsy's companions and there's certainly no box there...

Raised custom text isn’t applied nearly as cheaply FWIW, and an order of 555 (right number?) would not reduce costs to JK5 in a similar way the quantity of these would be to who ever is mass producing them with stamped templates. But I can get it if that’s what you are thinking, but that’s ignoring the custom order and limited quantity of these.

JK5 lowered his shipping price for companion #2. Maybe he realized the wood box was a no go and lowered it. Lol.
