Brian: How hard was it to pull a Brady metal? By my calculations it would seem one every other box. Does that sound about right?

I know it was a long time ago, but do you remember the ratio of your Brady pulls from your other boxes?

It looks like you got very lucky with the limiteds!!!!!!!

Those of you with Brady rookie cards/collections, if you are going to sell, when will it be? On various auction sites, they’re always for sale. Always have been. What is your strategy? Won’t they be worth more around playoff time compared to now? Won’t they be worth more at the start of next season compared to playoff time this season? Won’t they be worth more around the playoffs next season compared to the start of the season? Etc? Why are people selling now then? Or at any point in the past?

Does this mean just hold them for 20+ years?

When are you selling and why? What’s your general price prediction for future timelines?

I'm definitely not holding for another 20 years. Looking to sell within the next year or two. Just not sure of exactly when, but I intend to use multiple avenues depending on the card.

Why then? He won’t be retired yet. Whoever buys them can just sell them a year or two later for a huge profit. I’m guessing that’s why people are still buying now? Knowing they can be sold for a lot more later

My contenders will be passed down to my boys. Not sure about rest of the rookies, maybe in 10 plus years look to sell some.

I've held on long enough. I would sell now, but market for the higher priced cards I have actually slowed a bit. Waiting for the next playoff mania to see if I can time it correctly. Also, keeping a close eye on the changes to the capital gains law. That will determine whether I rush to market or take my time.

What will potentially change about capital gains?

It's already at 28% for collectibles. There was talk earlier in the year that they want to raise it even further, especially with the Biden administration taking over. 28% is already a huge chunk for me to accept. Can't imagine letting Uncle Sam take even MORE.

I can understand that, but taxes rarely go down, would you just never sell until you are much older?

No. Taxes go UP. I'll rush the sale(s) if I have to avoid it, but I'd rather take my time if they can leave it as is for now. I intend to be still be young enough to enjoy my investments when the time comes.

Exactly, they sure do. Everyone and their circumstances are certainly different. The potential for life changing money is certainly tempting for most, buying time by working less is something most can never experience.

Can someone do a basic run down?

Say a Brady rookie was purchased in the past for $500. They sell it on eBay for $1,500. What’s the full fee breakdown total for eBay fees and total taxes? I’m curious what the net profit is. I’m also assuming each states taxes are different, but what’s a “general” ballpark?

As far as how taxes are taken out since it’s a “collectible” vs taxes for just a “regular” sale on any item? If that makes sense

Imma be “that guy” but I’m looking for ideas.

$1500-2k

What Brady rookie would you buy?

PSA 9 non college uniform preferred but might do a BGS 8.5/9 or PSA 8 or college.

A good option would be a psa 8 Bowman.

Sort of a mix of what you mentioned. It’s a PSA 8, but Patriots uniform....classic choice, can’t go wrong there. Let me know if you want lots more options, including multiple cards that add up to the range you mentioned. In which case you can have around 3-4-5-6 nice cards/grades for $1500-$2000
