Default 2022 Topps Chrome Baseball Pre Sale.. thoughts?

Hi

I know 2022 Topps Chrome Baseball wont be out until July..

Currently Wander Franco Rookie cards will be in this product and we could possibly see BOBBY WITT JR / JULIO RODRIGUEZ / RILEY GREENE / ADLEY RUTSCHMAN and a few others if they get called up soon.
at $250 / hobby box doesnt it sound to good to be true?

Francos Base Rookie will probably sell for $50-$75 while Witt-Jrod could be in the $25-50 range.

By this time PSA should have a $35-50 grading level

Any thoughts on the potential of this product as well as the current price?

I think it could be one of the hottest products if not the hottest of these past years.

Who knows? I did preorder a jumbo case though. Hoping for it to be a good play though.

If there is no season, it might not be that great a price to lock in to.

Just like Wander, Topps will also likely play the same game and delay hyped rookies till next year as well.

Too many variables to take a risk at that price right now.

Economy could tank.

Just remember, chrome is supposed to be a $90-$100 box.

That could be true, I just believe 95% chance there will be a season and even if the economy tanks I see sportscards will be strong.. To many its a great escape, others a business and others gambling.. they arent a necessity, but def something people have a hard time staying away from, every year there are more people involved.

$90-$100 Topps Chrome boxes are forever gone. thats like saying Wander Base rookies will be $3-$5 max, in my opinion .0001% chance

I believe the lowest these can get to would be $225 and if Witt/Jrod get called up it can be max $750/box by release

My prediction is at least $350

I think you're a little high on your projections for how much base rookies will sell for.

Maybe.. but since I believe PSA will have a $35-$50 service I can see base cards getting close to the levels they were getting before the lockdown.. for example Acuna Topps chrome Base Rookie was selling for $100 and a PSA $250
now its maybe half of that, in part because those base cards cant be graded. but once they can be graded then Potential Superstar rookies like these 3 players could sell very well...

lets say they dont get to 2020 levels, but these prices seem very realistic

$35-$50 wander PSA 10s $175
$15-$25 Julio-Witt PSA 10s $115

Im counting on PSA having a $35-$50 level by JULY 2022

Base card prices have collapsed. Robert and Bichette PSA 10s are $40 to $45. Wander plays in Tampa. $25 base card raw?

I don’t want to discourage you as $250 isn’t that terrible a price for the reasons you mention. I can’t imagine Wander going for more $25 for very long. Maybe right at release.

Haha, exactly, 2015 is the last year I pre-ordered Topps Chrome. Actually, 2015 is the last year I bought any hobby boxes.

I think they have collapsed because it was based a lot on being able to grade them.. But popular Star players should be gradeable at a $35-50 level..
many people will want a Wander Franco Rookie and not everyone will be able to pay $2,000 for a Purple /299 PSA 10

oh well, I absolutely see Wander Franco rookies for sure being $25 grading them at $35-50 and being able to sell for $150, and possibly the same for Witt/Jrod

Thats if they get to the Vladdy-Tatis-Acuna-Soto level.. Wander has already been labelled as in that level

Robert-Bichette were never placed at that level, and they did collapse in part because of bad timing-- Robert being injured/Bichette with Vladdy stealing all the attention. these two players could be good buys

If Franco has a cold start like he did this year he'll be $10 after two weeks.

No one wants to touch base with a 10 foot pole.
$50 grading won't be enough and psa won't be $20.

Psa 10's will be $50 so why bother grading.

I don't see the 35-50 level being back that soon. It would also take you at least a year to get the cards back if they do. I think your way off on PSA 10 and raw prices outside of maybe the first few sales. Even still, 250 is not that bad a price given the class, but probably not as rosy as you think.

haha ok

and what if he has a HOT start
which is what is expected as he finished off VERY strong once he got used to the MLB level.

Star Rookie players Base cards are stealing being bought.. and
if as expected a $35-$50 grading level opens up they will be bought even more

But hey I dont care about the base lol
Im just making a point that just by being able to grade these a box at $250 is a no brainer..even just with Wander Franco in it I would think box prices get to $350

now add Witt-Jrod and its a 2-3x $250

PSA already stated they will have a level around that price range in about 6 months. And so far they have been completing all new orders on time. So personally I think 99% they will be ready in 6 months and it absolutely wont take them 1 year to grade them.. they should be back to around 4-6 months at most for a $50

in 6 months they will be caught up with most of the backlog..

Express $150 is taking about 1 week
Regular $100 (just opened and is expected to be 2-3months, which I believe it will be more around 1.5-2 months)
if they open a $50 level im VERY sure it wont take more than 6 months.. and I would guess its at most 4 months

Pop count 500 bajillion so PSA 10 price wouldn't go over $100 assuming they get to sub $50 tier by then.

I just hope Topps remembers how to print chrome cards, like those made from 1993 to 2008 that featured zero roller marks and etching.

This is an important release to not screw up.

We will see.. there are 500 bajillion Acuna Update PSA 10s and even when he was and is injured they still sell for $125 and Chrome became more popular than Update.

if Acunas Chrome image was the same as the Update Flagship then it would be higher than the $150 its selling for.

So really I dont see why Wander cant sell for $150 or more if he has the Same Image as his Soon to be Released Topps Series Flagship

you are working much too hard to justify a cost basis here. Just buy em all.

I actually do plan on probably buying 20 cases.. just waiting a bit, maybe in a month or two.. 7 months til realease is still a lot- buying some other singles for now

I see less than 1% chance these sell for less than $250/box.

Call me crazy, but I see odds are probably the same they fall to $200 than they get to $900

Don't forget that you are only going to pull a Wander every 3-4 boxes - so it'll cost you $750-1000 (at your $250/box rate) to pull a base wander if you are going to rip at that price.

You are also gambling on topps checklist shenanigans. What happens if they dilute the auto checklist with 75 relief pitchers and Wander is a redemption? Case production is double or triple last year?

You are taking a huge risk buying this far out.

Ask the 2021 topps chrome pre-order moon boyz - hobby boxes started at $300 and now you can find them for $125.

And no, it's not because of the weak rookie checklist - people knew exactly what you were getting when they came out at $300/box.
