Default Shipped to PSA in CA, Returned from NJ

Shipped to PSA in California mid-August - had four orders in one box - 1 regular, 1 $30 value, 2 $18 value.

The regular was returned in a week or two, from California, as expected.

The $18 orders are in Assembly and Grading, respectively.

The $30 order popped yesterday and shipped... From their facility in NJ.

I'm okay with the grades - but doesn't that introduce a whole lot of variables that could damage or even lose the cards? There seems to be no visibility with this, either. I have no idea where the $18 orders are being graded.

Has anyone else experienced this? I searched the forum, so I apologize if I missed anything. Just very surprising.

Wow!! So there was an extra transport from California to New Jersey? That is definitely a problem and PSA is leaving itself at risk of losing or damaging cards. They should have more transparency with this. Why would they not have made an announcement regarding this? Does this mean certain cards are going to NJ and certain are going to CA?

Man, another step for PSA to damaged your cards. I don't like this at all.

It's whatever-- still fewer trips in the mail than a submission sent through a group submitter (3 and 4, respectively), and it's not like your cards have a significantly higher chance of being damaged/lost if you go through a group sub than if you submit yourself.

On one of their podcasts they mentioned that with the NJ facility ramping up, they would transfer cards between sites to where there was excess capacity. They didn't give any sort of guidance as to what service levels or types of cards would go where.

I have almost exactly the same order as you. In the exact time frame just about two weeks earlier than you.

The regualr sent july returned in a week. CA-CA

The $18 orders sent in july and august 07/19/22 07/26/22 08/08/22 all in grading-QA1

The $30 order sent 07/25/22 still in QA2.

I wonder if maybe this is the reason some of these orders are stalling are because they have been shipped to NJ and processed/reprocessed there. Will update post once sent out. Hopefully the grades will be avaible soon. Some i've popped searched, couple of gems.

Yes, I had one 5 card value order returned this week.
Sent to CA, returned from NJ.
It was strange seeing NJ when the tracking became available.

I'm in Missouri. So about as dead middle as you could get. Will be very curious to see where the $18 orders come from when complete.

Thanks for sharing your location...wonder if anyone else out there is more towards the east coast and whether their submission is coming out of NJ instead of CA. I could see that as something they're doing as the orders from the eastern half of the states will eventually need to be shipped eastbound anyways.

After he announced the first cards graded and shipped from NJ at the end of July, I asked Nat on Twitter what cards would be sent to NJ vs. CA. He said all cards will still be sent to CA, then PSA would handle internally, but cards can be dropped off in NJ.

Were they auto cards? NJ office does auto authentication.

We can drop off cards or grading in NJ now? If so, that's a game-changer for me. I live 15 minutes from their Woodbridge office.

I had 2 cards for a PSA/DNA submission that were in CA the whole time, it finished up near the end of August - so I'm not sure where you heard that NJ office is doing auto auth's?

I drop off autos at PSA's office all the time. Not for card grading but just authentication/auto grading.

I live in AL and just got back two $18 specials from CA yesterday and today that were all sports cards. I still have several $18 specials (one older than the ones I just got back) along with a value and economy that are all tcg cards still in R&ID. I thought it was taking longer than normal to get into grading just because of a backlog of tcg submitted, but this makes me wonder if maybe they are going to start splitting submissions up and sending sports to one location and tcg to the other.

you could always have dropped off cards in Woodbridge. they would then ship them in bulk to CA for grading. the woodbridge office primarily does non-card auto grading as far as I remember, but you were still allowed to drop off cards in person for forwarding to Newport Beach.

If you go on their site though for the NJ office it clearly states they are not taking trading card submissions at that location

well, means one of two things.....

1.) they changed the drop off policy I believe they once had or...

2.) they dont want people mailing submissions there because people are idiots, but they accept them as a drop off location only.

I think you all need to go visit PSA go to the bottom of the main page and select PSA New Jersey, it takes you there and clearly says "The New Jersey office DOES NOT accept trading card grading submissions.
To submit trading cards to PSA for authentication and grading, please visit PSA’s Online Submission Center. "

'PSA’s New Jersey Office only accepts drop-off and shipped submissions for Autograph Authentication, Autograph Encapsulation, Autograph Grading, Original Photos, and purchases of PSA supplies. You must schedule an appointment using our our online appointment tool. You’ll receive a confirmation email with instructions to bring the completed submission form for the service you choose and a signed copy of the DNA Drop-Off Waiver. "

You all not worried about NJ or rookie graders? Having doubts of the TPG special, who will grade these $15 specials?

Specials to get the rookie graders some seat time?
