You've really crossed a line here.

I'd put Dak in mine as revenge but then he'd actually be good.

I have to see if my jinxing powers are stronger than "he who should be named."

Remember that time I saved the world from monkey pox?

I promise: One bad MNF performance is all I need and then I'll drop him and leave these threads.

Thanks, guys - appreciate the kind words on the reds. The Obsidian Floods are really nice in-hand...maybe a bit overlooked with all the junk being printed today.

The cool thing is, I had never heard of Brock Purdy, or the San Francisco 49ers or football. However, I logged in to Blowout one day and saw "The Call" and knew I had to buy these cards. Now I'm rich.

He's changing lives one Call at a time. Legend has it he saved Japan from economic implosion calling Ohtani in 2019.

Still haven't forgiven you for that. If the time comes I need you to leave H5N1 alone.

Congrats! Always happy to see new people emerge that made money off my prediction. You picked some great parallels

Same!

I mean, I was getting back my own PSA subs of Purdy in March 2023, and buying his Elite, Black and Certified cards as they came out in 2022.

I'm holding for a beat at the moment. I have a good stash that was assembled very cheaply overall and maybe 4-5 others in a potential PSA sub. I think we're headed into the dog days of the season, wins may be less pretty and hard to come by for everyone, at least consistently.

I'd prefer a 12-5 record over 17-0 and super-banged up headed into the post season.

Just a reminder that Brock Purdy is still #1 in QBR despite Mahomes' monster week: https://www.espn.com/nfl/qbr

I would love to see a Marino/Purdy card.

I still haven't forgiven him for buying a Justin Fields card in early August.

I don't like the comparison. Marino was all numbers but not a winner. Never won a SB and a career losing record in the playoff. Purdy is less flashy numbers but alot more winning

I agree, I think Brady is a way better comparison.

Purdy has done nothing but win from day 1

Brock Purdy started his first game on December 4th, 2022 and proceeded to knock out 8 consecutive wins with stellar QB play up until his unfortunate injury in the NFC championship. Then the team traded Trey Lance, securing Purdy's future with the team. His cards exploded, thousands of people jumped on the train, and there were "calls" everywhere (the equivalent of a "Buy" signal in the stock world).

You came in 10 months later and are acting like you are the only person on the planet who thought his cards were a good buy. Even going the narcissistic route of labeling it "The Call" and taking ownership of something that thousands were saying before you. THAT is the troll reference. It's the equivalent of standing in a field watching storm clouds rolling in and "calling" rain to your friends and family and then bragging insufferably for the next 6 weeks that it was YOU who called the storm.

You are at the back of the train, no matter what your delusions tell you.

RULES;

-Mature conversations, debating is encouraged.

-If you don’t have Brock Purdy cards that’s ok. Be humble to share as to why not; expected failure, too early, financial reasons (Personally I couldn’t afford to spend $$$ until recently), etc…
Thanks for starting this. I'll give my two cents for historical record and debate purposes, knowing full well that it's just an educated guess by me and I might come back years from now and laugh at my take.

I'm mostly impressed by what I've seen from Purdy thus far. His understanding the both the defenses he's seen and the QB position in general are quite impressive for someone who is still 23 years old. He doesn't seem to make many 'wow' throws, but he doesn't seem to make many mistakes either. He has playmakers all around him and understands that his job is to get them the ball so that they can make plays. He does it well.

What I think he's lacking (and this shouldn't be a surprise) is the high end athleticism and playmaking ability that the top QBs in the league mostly tend to have. A telling situation was last week against the Browns when the 49ers would get in 3rd and long, there was no fear on my part that no matter what the defense did, Purdy might shred you for a first down by just outplaying you the way you worry that guys like Mahomes, Josh Allen, or Aaron Rodgers have done to teams many times. Until he develops that ability, it just adds to the pressure to be perfect on early downs in order to not put himself in that situation.

I don't have any Brock Purdy cards. It's not because I don't like him or I don't believe he's going to be a super star, it's just because that's not how I collect. I didn't buy a single Mahomes card or item until he had an MVP and Super Bowl MVP. Since then I've been able to amass a nice collection. What I know about the NFL is that it's very difficult to maintain long term Super Star status and it depends on a lot of things beyond what the player is actually in control of: Health, teammate health, organizational competence, coaching competence, etc. More often than not, a QB can be exceptional, but in the hobby world, wind up in the Ben Roethlisberger/Matthew Stafford/Russell Wilson realm. Maybe those aren't perfect comps, but you get the point. Until then, I just get to watch his career play out any way it does without any real skin in the game, which is kind of nice.

Haha. Okay, now it rings a bell.

I wanted to get it down in writing so I can look back at myself as a fool if Purdy wins Super Bowl MVP this year by making countless 3rd/4th and Long throws to win the game.
