Provenance is very important for Game-Used memorabilia in my opinion given the recent MJ Game-Used Jersey scam. This one has a verified provenance. Leo himself posted about it on his IG page.

I’m sure Messi kept the second half kits for himself. The jersey worn at match end is far more valuable than the one worn in the first half in this instance.

Very likely. I can understand the significance of debut and finals (championship win) jerseys. However, since there are so many regular season games and most players wear more than one jersey and one pair of sneakers in a game, it makes them not so rare as some sellers try to portray, especially for players like MJ, Kobe, Lebron, Curry, etc who have played for more than 12 years. We have seen so many of these regular season game-used jerseys for sale lately for many basketball players.

I think you have to separate MJ jerseys from Kobe, LeBron and Curry given then difference in population. The game worn market has changed massively over the last decade with the proliferation of jerseys worn for a game that are sold to collectors.

I would estimate there are less than 50 photo matched Jordan Bulls jerseys out there compared to hundreds for Kobe, LeBron and Curry. Jordan jerseys worn for multiple games are even rarer as the majority of the Jordan population are 1 game jerseys worn in the 97-98 season.

You can see the difference in auction volume. Almost every Goldin Elite or Heritage Platinum has a Kobe, LeBron and Curry.

On Messi, I am still surprised with how few Barca shirts that have hit the market. There was an article in the NYT during the World Cup about players trying to swap shirts after the match. I believe there was an Australian player that was successful. The auction would be more interesting if they were selling each shirt individually.

My post was meant as a caution. These guys are all wearing multiple jerseys most games. And the auction houses don’t always disclose that.

If you're buying it to be the only one, then that may or may not bite you one day if another one pops up. If you're buying to collect a part of the game, then to me it's a much better buy then an NT or Flawless logoman that'll likely go for a lot more.

I move a couple of cards recently to pick up something that means much more to me: Game used footballs from games that were significant to me. As a collector, I'm less concerned about the value and more interested in the excitement I feel every time I go in my office and see a ball that Patrick Mahomes threw to Tyreek Hill in the second half of his first Super Bowl, as well as a ball that he threw to Tyreek and Travis Kelce in the last TD drive in the 4th quarter of the :13 second game vs the Bills. I get that there are other balls floating around from those games, but I'm never going to get the game jersey's from those games, so this is as close as it's going to get.

But I will give you this, it's important for auction houses to disclose the multiple jersey thing. I have 1 debut Jersey and I'd be a bit pissed if I found out more were floating around.

Give it some more time. The game-used memorabilia pump only started recently (~one yr). MJ played ~930 games during his 13 seasons for the Bulls. You will likely see more MJ Game-used photomatched jerseys showing up for sale in the future.

Back then, one jersey could last multiple games. Even if there were 1,000 MJ game used jerseys available, the demand is still higher. I've been collecting MJ since the mid 90's and I've seen some collectors hoard so many pieces of signed MJ that they could start their own museum.

You also have to remember that the guy in question (James Park) collected cards as a kid..

Sure, values are important but the guy has the money to acquire grail cards for his PC without risking his financial fortune. He's no different than you and I, he just has a lot more money to play with. From a ratio standpoint, he probably spends as much (maybe even less) than most BO members (money on cardsersonal net worth).

i am not denying the scarcity. My point is that there are more of them out there and they are not as rare as some pumpers and sellers are trying to portray. Also, the demand vs supply depends on the price what it sells for. When the price gets to six to seven figures, even some of the hardcore collectors will try to cash out and we have seen that already with MJ 86F PSA 10's, Brady Champ Ticket/100, Lebron Exquisite RPA/99 etc. I highly doubt that the so called pure collectors are carrying these six to seven figure worth items with them to their grave.

I do agree that when prices get to untouched territory, you certainly will see a correction. More collectors start selling and it's no longer considered rare. People will say anything to get higher sales so as a buyer you have to know what you're buying. It's pretty laughable when I see the same card being sold from one flipper to the next though.

The big upside price move in MJ jerseys has probably already happened. Pre-Covid, 97-98 jerseys worn for 1 game were going for around $100k. They went up to $200k plus during Covid and have settled in $300-350k range. Playoff jerseys and jerseys worn for more than 1 game sell for a premium. Supply to the market this year is less than the last couple years. A decent number of the jerseys that were purchased for $100k were recycled into the market over the last couple years. I am surprised there haven’t been more at auction this year. Goldin’s NBA elite auction in December could have 1 and would be a good market test.

Holding items like a Jordan jersey or LeBron Exquisite is more expensive with short term Treasuries at 5%. You could have the item or $300k in Treasuries kicking of $15k a year in income.

In my opinion, a Jordan jersey is way cooler than a Brady Champ ticket. Another difference is cost basis. A Brady Champ Ticket or LeBron Exquisite was a couple grand in the mid 2000s.

I do agree that the hype and pump machine has brought a ton of stuff to market in game used and people need to be careful. Ultimately, people have to want to keep something and not just constantly flip stuff to have price stability.

I love collecting, but the run up in prices makes me at least think about selling something.

It is interesting to watch all this play out.

There is parallel in basketball that I really like which I have been buying. All under 150 bucks a card (most under 100). I really like the cards personally so I'd love to own them for myself and if others catch on and like them too then from an investment perspective, win-win. This is where speculation makes sense. In this price range, at least for me.

That's what usually happens when an all time high sale occurs. Other copies start coming out of the woodworks.

That Credentials Future MJ doubled from the previous sales. It's a good time to "cash out" for people that have them. $200k is life changing money for many. Take it and run. Cards are just cards at the end of the day. $200k can dramatically enhance ones financial picture.

Plus there are a few high end 90's Jordan collectors that are going all in right now. Not a bad time to cash out imo. Especially when most cards are still cratering.

I had 165,000 and have come down to around 130,000.

Trying to get down to around 1,000 by the end of next year with cards I'd consider long term holds and not cycle cards
