Default Can someone explain to me why the Disney Topps chrome cards are selling for a crazy A

I don’t understand there not real autos there not even artist or publishers autos and like Disney is popular but I don’t quite get the value on this set. I expected it to be cool and it is but I never thought it would sell like it has after market for singles.

It's likely speculators pumping up prices, and not true collectors (e.g. traditional Disney collectors) buying these, as discussed in some other threads. Shares a lot of similarities with some of the Sapphire releases. I think your expectation of a cool off is very reasonable.

No sketches, no real autos...just numbered cards and parallels. The bread and butter of the gambling/speculating crowd.

You couldn't be more wrong on this one. I'll explain tomorrow when I have more time.

Well there’s one way to find out….wait a year or two and check singles prices.

People were also telling me I was wrong when I was skeptical of SW Sapphire 1’s early prices (both boxes and singles), and look what happened, looks like current market prices support my early skepticism.

Apples and oranges, which is where you are going wrong. And I was one of the few who was wary of sw sapphire singles prices crashing as well.

More tomorrow.

I don't think anyone can convince me that Disney card collectors are some huge untapped market. But hey, maybe this time it will be different.

Personally, I don't see the charm nor collectability of this product. I think the pricing is very suspicious indeed.

As a card collector and Disney fan, this product sucks. There are no hits. Numbered parallels are not a hit. Fake autographs are not a hit.

Put some sketches and voice actor autos in there. Animator autos, animation cel autos, comic artist autos...something. Even comic cuts, which I'm not a fan of, would be better than nothing. Heck put a 1/1 Walt Disney cut auto in there so there's at least a product hit.

If Upper Deck does a US Disney 100 release (it'll be 2-3 years late because Upper Deck), maybe Disney Allure, it will probably end up being more popular because it's a U.S. release and not UK.

They should just restart the Disney Treasures line of 20 years ago, which ended up consisting of 5 sets: Series 1, 2, and 3, plus Disney Pixar and a holiday-themed one. Those still hold up very well, and by now, they've introduced hundreds of new characters.

I dont think what Im saying is that outlandish. That a ton of people buying/selling these arent traditional Disney collectors. They're not...they are largely card collectors, including people from sports who get in on these snazzy new releases to make $ off the hype. Im not just wildly guessing here either- there is evidence to back it up. Click on seller's other items on many of the ebay listings for Disney Chrome cards- how often is it a bunch of card listings, ranging from nonsports to sports (baseball, soccer, wrestling etc) to gaming cards- and how often is it someone selling Disney collectibles like figurines, pins, knick knacks, park souvenirs, movies, etc. The answer is vastly the former- it's card people. Many are card sellers from China.

Heck even if there wasnt an artificial pump/going on with these, it is not outlandish to expect the product to cool a bit down the road- happens with almost any release, starts out with hype and higher prices, then gets cold. Look at even MM22, FUA, or almost any other set like UD Cosmic. So to declare Im definitely 'wrong' about thinking these will fall just doesnt make sense. I fully expect to see a deflation in prices by a year or two out from now.

It is also not totally apples to oranges between this and SW Sapphire. Both sets selling points are not sketches or autos, but just numbered parallels. Both are shiny, and both seem to get plenty of attention from sports buyers and flippers. Both boxes off the bat got to pretty big heights. And we saw what happened with SW sapphire boxes, as much as people in that thread were adamant they would end up at like 1500 (they're what...250 now?)

Kakawow Disney is down 50% across the board in less than a year. Sure it’s Chinese, but in collectibles this chrome product has essentially been done before and will be done again.

Don’t fall for the hype and overpay due to FOMO, which is exactly what flippers and investors want you to think.

Yep. I used to break multiple cases of new products at release but I started collecting non sports sets 6 months after release about 2 years ago. Everything you would want outside of a few 1/1’s are still easy to find. I suggest anyone with any patience at all do the same.

I'm in a Disney Card Collectors Facebook group that has absolutely been taken over by sports guys trying to sell all these new sets. The feed has become nothing but Kakawow, Lorcana and Chrome sales posts. No discussions about the cards themselves, just sale sale sale. Who's enjoying any of this?

Same thing happened with Kakawow, prices will come down.

He’s also supposed to explain to us why Disney collectors will pay higher and higher in the future for these chrome cards.

Also, he supposed to convince us that pure Disney collectors are buying this and not sports cards flippers and profiteers.

Kakawow was more exciting as it was released during the boom. This seems to be a rehash based on what I've seen. I wouldn't doubt the hype is on and it comes tumbling down.

Seller username basically explains what I was trying to write paragraphs about above. More succinct way to convey it.

My local shop had a case and two dudes who usually open higher end football and basketball cracked the whole case.

They didn’t leave any for the Disney collectors.
