New bin store in town, well been here since July, but I'm glad to have another one with garage sales winding down here. We have been going on $1 day have found some good stuff but got a tip from a local reseller who used to own a bin store that I did crazy good at and now we are going on $2 day. My mom has been to $2 day 2 weeks in a row (I've been sick) and you would be shocked at how much crazy good stuff you find for $2 in the bins. Also Academy has their half off clearance sale, we went last week, picked up several pairs of Brooks shoes (I'm new to the running game and know these are good ones and always sell) a trail cam 2 pack, some kind of golf thing. I sold the golf thing and made $80 in profit and a pair of Brooks I made $40 in profit, and the trail cam I made $60 in profit.

Lady had a PS2 and a PS3 for sale along with some other consoles. I picked up a PSP, Gameboy Advance and Gameboy Advance SP for $5 a piece. Each had issues with them and knew I was selling for parts or repair.

Picked up a Gamecube for $10 as well, once again, parts or repair.

I asked for $10 each on the PS2 and PS3 knowing full well they probably don't work based off the condition of the other consoles I picked up from her. She said yes.

Husband comes home, right when we are getting the deal done for the PS2 and 3. Says there's no way they are selling those two consoles for $10 a piece. I break it down for him and explain that I have to assume they don't work as there are no cords and based off the other conditions of the consoles, I would have to lean one the side of caution.

He wanted $70 for both.

I took the other consoles and some various games and left.

My question is, she knew I was a reseller, said she did the same thing, but only with furniture. Was my offer too low for parts or repair?

What would you be willing to pay?

My breakdown is I sell them for roughly $40 a piece for parts/repair. Paid $20, plus shipping, plus fees, I make about $20 and they made $20.....am I off on that?

No, sounds about right. I’m surprised the husband didn’t have a cow about the other consoles going cheap. The ones you DID get are better for resale anyway.

That’s what I thought as well, but sometimes a person irks you so much that you start to second guess yourself so I appreciate it. I’m definitely happy I walked away with what I did but it’s always the deals that don’t get done that tend to linger for awhile.

Thanks to the continued hot weather, garage sales are still going strong here in September.

Been getting lucky with the free stuff people have in boxes at garage sales as of late. Got a clear push button phone for free that I just sold for $40.

Another lady had a "curb alert" and I saw some cassette tapes worth picking up. By the time I got there they were all gone, but whoever picked those up, left a pair of Nike Zoom Air hockey skates which I picked up. Those can sell anywhere between $100 to $300+.

They weren't in the best condition, but free is free!

Went to an estate sale last weekend at a place that used to be an antique store / auction house. Some incredible stuff there but most was overpriced.

I was able to get 12 vintage cotton flags. Most are 5 x 9 1/2 and 48 star. One nylon flag is giant. Haven't unfurled it yet but the stars are roughly 8 inches across.

Had back to back returns....

One guy bought a pair of team issued Notre Dame Football Pants.....I figured for memorabilia purposes....nope....he was wearing them and they weren't his size.

Another guy messages me and asks to overnight a jersey. I said yes, but I won't be refunding the overnight shipping cost if the jersey does not fit. I then proceeded to give him the measurements and told him to make sure it fits correctly......sure enough.....the jersey didn't fit. Opens a return.

$150 in returns (not including the overnight cost) in less than a week.....that hurts.

this is why clothes for me is the one thing I don't really deal with. If doesn't fit perfectly or look the exact condition they want it can become an easy headache for sellers

That's why I mainly deal with mens clothes unless I can find womens clothing for cheap and it's a good return. Women were returning stuff left and right and I just gave up on women's clothing.

Overall, I have less than a 2% return rate in a year (18 items out of 972) but, man, when they do hit, it hurts.

I stick to men's clothes as well. They definitely can be a headache but the margins are so high it's hard to resist! Lots of competition also but they are easy to store and ship so I just list them and wait for a buyer.

I'm seriously about to lose it with ebay. I keep getting a screen that says "Access Denied" and has this message:

You don't have permission to access "http://www.ebay.com/" on this server.
Reference #18.97c3c117.1727389692.958f14

https://errors.edgesuite.net/18.97c3...7389692.958f14

Someone told me that it had something to do with my internet provider but we've sinced moved to a different town and have a completely different IP service so it can't be that. If you Google this message you will see lots of people have this happen to them also but there has thus far been no solution. Someone uninstalled a Chrome extension and said that helped but I did the same and did not help me at all. Anyone else ever get this message? It doesn't impact my app usage, only the desktop and mobile sites.

That sucks!! I'd go crazy if I didn't have access to the website as that is what I use to post.

Has anyone ever dealt with pesticides/pest control items? I listed some Snake B Gon and I have had it removed, saying I violated a policy and need some kind of EPA number. I don't see one on item specifics. Does anyone know where that might go or how to list this type of item? Thank you

I remember a couple years back there was some D-con that was selling really high because it had a chemical/formula in it that was no longer used. Sold really high I think for just being rat poison, not sure if that is a different scenario than what you are doing or maybe the policy has changed entirely. Only pest control I have sold is traps (electric/snap/etc......).

Went to a garage sale that listed video games for sale. I went as soon as they opened and the lady said the guy that was selling them wasn't around to sell them but she'd let me take a look.

He had 2 Dreamcast consoles with 5+ OEM controllers, a box of video games, 2 Gamecube consoles, the wavebird controller with the adapter and 4-5 memory cards, the dreamcast joystick, the dreamcast keyboard and a ton of other accessories along with some CCG cards.

Now I know nothing of CCG cards, but he had crates full of them. I was prepared to offer what I thought was a good amount of money for all of them, but then she told me her son works for a gaming website creating content for them, but she'd take down my number.

I told her I'd buy it all to exclude cherry pickers. I was never expecting a return phone call and I expected the guy to know what he had and expect a mint.

I went back three hours later after the lady texted me. She said a company from Wisconson bought all of his CCG cards for $800. Now I would have loved to have countered but I don't know enough about them to know what my return profit would be.

She then said he'd take $125 for his consoles and games which I hopped on and didn't even haggle.

I found a sealed Shepherd's Crossing 2 Nintendo DS game which sells for $300+.

While I'm ecstatic, I just wonder what those CCG cards are worth.

Do you have any idea which CCG/CCGs?

The two I remember are 7th Sea and that's what he had the most of. And I'm talking at least a 5000 count long box on that one.

Then he had Illuminati which was in a much smaller box, but still at minimum 500 cards if I were to guess, but probably a lot more.

The other two, I can't think of off the top of my head, but he had tons of those too.

Some company called Noble Knight from Wisconsin bought them all. I knew there was profit to be made, but they were probably better inclined to know which cards were valuable and which weren't rather easily. While it would've taken me months to figure out what was what and at an $800 price tag, it wasn't something I felt like undertaking without knowing what my potential profit would have been.

Never heard of 7th Sea, but those Illuminati cards are interesting. Those were printed about 30 years ago and two of the cards eerily prophesy 9/11. Purely coincidence, of course, but pretty wild nonetheless.

Some idiot 0 feedback buyer left me a negative because the usps was delayed in delivering their package. Definitely appealing that one because I shipped it next day and it was the usps fault. Some people are just dumb like I control how fast the usps delivers items.

Edit: Appealed to ebay and got it removed very quickly

This is year eight of me doing thrifting/garage sales to turn profit on eBay. It's fun to see the change in "hot items" and what was once selling well in the past may have taken a dip now.

I enjoy the continued learning to stay on top of the trends and there's always something new to find you've never found before.

I will say my biggest change this year that has helped me out tremendously is being open and honest while out at garage sales.

I use to hide the fact I was a reseller and kind of kept to myself while looking on my phone for sold comps. Now I just flat out tell people I resell which actually helps when they are trying to pitch you on an overpriced jacket that you may want, but "Hey, I'm sure you'll find a buyer at your price, good luck!"

That and I make sure to ask for items that they may not have out.....the last three sales I've been to, they've gone in their house and pulled out what I've asked for and were sold to me at a great price. A lot of people will just turn around and leave. Striking up a conversation does help.

While I've left my phone number with people as well, it's hit and miss if they ever get back to you, but it's always worth a shot.

Here's to a great fourth quarter with Christmas right around the corner!

I'm about 4 years into doing this. I do it strictly as a hobby to make some extra cash. I never thought it would still be so much fun but I really enjoy going out and finding stuff to sell. I think i learn something new every time I go out. When I started, I strictly kept to the stuff i know really well. It was mainly sports memorabilia and camping gear. Like most of us, I've really branched out and today I'm buying and selling stuff I never would have imagined.

I never thought that the market would change so drastically. There are items that used to be no brainers and always sell that I can't give away now. Conversely, it's really cool how things that used to never sell are all of the sudden hot. This part baffles and amazes me.

Because of this hobby, I've been able to purchase anything I want for the past few years. I've bought all the toys and gear that always wanted. I've also spent a ton on concert tickets and sporting events. It's really nice to be able to purchase almost anything. I bought a baseball card recently for $800 which I never would have thought I'd ever do.

For me, it's the thrill of the hunt. You never know what big ticket item is lurking out there. My biggest sales thus far have been on items that I really had no clue about but took a chance on.

Just got offered $500 for my sealed Shepherd's Crossing 2 DS game. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? One is up for 899.99 OBO, I put mine up for 799.99 OBO and the only one that sold was a re-seal for $350.

Seems like a good deal, but the research I have done says it's a pretty hard game to come by, especially sealed. Greed says I should counter at 600 and hope they counter offer, but also, $500 is a really good deal.

Got a five gallon bucket of diecast from a free pile.

Having fun going through it.

Have no clue on diecast, never sold it before but eager to learn.
