Default 24/25 Official 2024 World Champion Dodgers Thread

Dodgers are World Series champions
What do they need to repeat
Teo Hernandez definitely needs to come back
resign Flahtery. I’m not sure what the starting pitching will look like.
Go Dodgers!

I read Buehler not getting a QO just as realizing his market is nowhere near $21M a year. He's still a dude who was -1.5 WAR this year.

Bring Teo back, find an everyday SS who can contribute offensively, and for the love of everything good, stock up on reliable starting pitching...it's clearly a war of attrition out there!

It's still early in the offseason, but it seems like the Opening Day rotation could be:

Yamamoto
Glasnow (his durability still scares me)
Gonsolin
May (has never met an injury he didn't like...eesh)
Kershaw* (if healed from surgeries in time/re-signs with Dodgers)
Flaherty*** or Buehler*** (pending offseason signings/moves)

Ohtani is the ace.
Year older and healthy Knack and Miller
Gavin Stone
Emmitt Sheehan

They will have a six man rotation.

I think they have a couple guys in the minors that are probably ready too.

Starting pitching won’t be the issue.

I'm not 100% convinced Ohtani pitches at the beginning of next year.

Stone is out for next year, and I'm not sure where Sheehan stands in his rehab.

Miller is not a reliable starter, and Knack, well, he could end up being okay.

You are right about Stone. I didn’t realize he was out for the year.

The Dodgers don’t need much to stay at the top of the league, but they could use some top-end rotation reinforcements. L.A. didn’t get much starting pitching help throughout the postseason, relying on its bullpen most of the way. With some injury uncertainties next season, the Dodgers will be looking to add.

I'm hoping Buehler get signed...maybe a one year deal with a lot of performance incentives...base salary may be $10mil? Doubt anyone will give him a multi year deal at this point.

With Buehler and assuming good health, this might be the starting 5

Yamamato
Glasnow
Ohtani
Buehler
Kershaw (pretty sure he will re-sign...maybe looking for a 2 yr deal)

As for Flaherty, reading he might need 20mil multi year (5-6 yrs)...he made 14mil this year. Would you roll the dice on good health with the above 5, not sign Flaherty, plus other guys coming back as #6...Gonsolin (who is recovered from TJ and threw a couple of games last September), May, Grove, etc?

Instead of re-signing Flaherty, make a run at Willy Adames at a cost of 25mil/6 yrs. Edman may function best as super utility (he's supplanted Chris Taylor in this role) than every day player....unless really going all in for Soto.

GM Gomes said Mookie is moving back to the infield. Lux was decent at 2b/#9 hitter so does that mean Mookie going back to SS once again? That opens up RF...for Soto? If not, then there's a hole there unless they think Pages will have a breakout season...Kike/Edman can split time in CF with Teo in LF....or....maybe Shohei will go out there when not pitching and free up the DH slot?

I'd imagine they move on from Lux. Nice player but underperformed a good bit. Also allows the Dodgers to perhaps sign Soto or Teo while also opening up a place for Pages to play which isn't center given just how bad his defense was.

Top free agents: RHP Jack Flaherty, OF Teoscar Hernández, RHP Walker Buehler

Biggest needs: Starting rotation, outfield or shortstop

The defending champs, who have won the most games of any team over the last decade, start the winter with the best projected roster. It helps to still have Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Tyler Glasnow, and: oh yes, Shohei Ohtani is expected to pitch again, despite left shoulder surgery. A team that is always good should, spoiler alert, still be good. The big question, aside from whether they’ll try to add more big-ticket external starting pitching (hello, Roki Sasaki?) or just rely on various injured pitchers returning to health, is how the in-season addition and success of Tommy Edman changes the lineup plans. Already, the Dodgers have said that they expect to move Mookie Betts back to the middle infield, where they also can use Edman, Miguel Rojas and Gavin Lux. That might mean the club focuses more on the outfield, working to bring back Hernández -- or even taking a shot at Juan Soto. Still, given the ability of both Betts and Edman to play the infield or outfield, the Dodgers also retain the flexibility to pursue a shortstop like free agent Willy Adames or trade candidate Bo Bichette.
