Love how well Raleigh has been playing but with a .248 batting average you shouldn’t win MVP, do we know if there have been winners who did everything well except hitting for average?

2011 AL MVP Justin Verlander batted .000

Which brings us to a more interesting answer, although he was partially a pitcher — Shohei Ohtani, 2021 AL MVP. Ohtani batted .257, 136–537, and 46 of those hits were home runs, and another eight were triples, which led the league that year. He also went 9–2, 3.18 while pitching, though with not enough innings to qualify for the ERA championship. A true two-way threat, Ohtani posted an 8.9 WAR to lead the AL, and won the MVP unanimously.

Seriously guys? C’mon, do better. As long as Judge stays on the field half the time, he’s running away with it. I get Raleigh is a catcher, but even if he breaks catcher hr and rbi record, it’s Judge’s to lose.

Agreed--it would take a colossal stumble for the Judge to lose it...he's something else.

Position matters. Signature moments like last night matter. Team competing down the stretch for the Division matters.

As long as Judge stays healthy and doesn't fall flat on his face.....none of those things will matter. And the Yankees are competing for a division as well.

I get that Cal is having a great year. No one can deny that. Yet he's dwarfed, by Judge, in almost every stat except HRs and RBIs.

Yeah, east coast bias will win it for judge easily.

Judge is the only AL, east coast player, other than Mookie, to win the MVP since 2015????

That’s misleading info, as Trout, Ohtani and Judge have won 6 of the 9 last AL mvps.

Cal Raleigh plays for a minor league team tucked away in the corner of the west coast, half the voters have never even seen him play and 90% couldn’t identify him walking down the street!

Trout and Ohtani played for the Angles. Compared to the Angles the Mariners look like world beaters. And I'm not sure what you consider the east coast. Where is the cut off line for a team to no longer be considered an east coast team?

Regardless, Cal is having a great season. I don't want to hijack a player thread by disrespecting anything he's done. That's not my thing.

Trout and Ohtani are baseball legends of their time, Raleigh is a nobody.

The cutoff line is probably the Mississippi.

There’s a reason the national doesn’t want to get anywhere near the left coast.

You’re not hijacking, judge has a very legit shot at winning it. I don’t think anyone takes offense at you being here, like they do in other player threads.

Judge is great, but lets be realistic, its more likely they finish 4th in the AL east than win it.

The same bias that gave it to Altuve in 2017? Judge should be 90% chance at this point with the other 10% from voter fatigue. I like Cal but he's about a hundred points behind Judge in BA, OBP, and SLG.

That war gap has closed significantly. But yes judge the favorite and Vegas agrees with that. To say though cal has not shot at this point is crazy

Sounds like you missed the trade deadline. The Mariners have the most HRs in baseball...by 34. Their lineup is scary. If people don't know about them yet, they will.

Julio Rodriguez seems to have had his bat wake up too. I needed a hit from Raleigh and wasn't let down.

It doesn’t matter how many home runs they have.

Sincerely,
