My guess is he comes back Dec 17, after an 8 day layoff for the IST.

That's 10 games he'll miss on top on top of the 1 he already has. That means he can only miss 6 games the rest of the year to be eligible for awards. Probably not gonna happen, unfortunately.

Think some obvious fixes are doing away with b2bs and also introducing a real preseason, meaning longer than 3 weeks and not splintered with travel and game days.

2 studies came out in 2022/23 on Italian and Belgian professional footballers showing “a correlation between SARS-CoV-2 infection and indirect muscle injuries.” The Belgian study “reported a five times higher risk of developing a muscle strain after a SARS-CoV-2 infection in elite male football players.” Pretty small sample sizes though so nothing conclusive.

The answer is, of course, recall bias.

You don’t remember it occurring so frequently because you didn’t have so many adjacent Achilles injuries. Unless there is data to the contrary, my guess is the number of calf injuries is no different than previous.

Now why is somebody like Wemby susceptible? Because humans aren’t supposed to be that tall. And when they’re that tall, they’re not supposed to be that athletic.

It's not of course a recall bias.

I hope someone eventually finds the numbers because I'd say the last 2-3 years there is a significant increase in them and a factor leading to them (according to the internet doctors) is the increase in jump shooting, and 'explosive' movements, which would make sense why there wasn't as many strains even 10 years ago.

Athletes are doing more weight training than ever from a younger age than ever.

Wemby is unique in his frame in terms of injury concerns too

I wonder if stuff like the euro step, decell, step back are all causing more strain and torque on ligaments. There is a ton more stop and go. Also, if you are the top player. You get a lot of usage for ball handling and iso creation. I am sure the league is crunching data. I don't want to see it as an excuse for more load management.

I ran the question through Grok.

The number of calf strains has effectively 2.5x’d the last 10 years and continues to climb. The true number is likely lower given the limitations of older data.

What’s unfortunate is that recall bias is a much more palatable answer than the alternative, which is that the game has outpaced the ability of the players’ bodies to keep up. I don’t think that’s an issue that can be resolved.

Glad you can actually admit you are wrong, that's just the last 10 years, too. Go 20 years, the data is likely sketchy but it'd be tough to imagine the rate isn't significantly higher.

OKC with a casual 49-pt opening quarter…and still not running with all cylinders.

Unfortunately may likely be the case, and this is coming from a fan with experience.

Al Roker latitudinally, Slemby longitudinally. Bodies were just not physiologically intended for these types of anomalous extremes.

Hope this is a rare exception for him, cuz he's fun to watch. But if not, at least a Porzingis type playability career where we get to experience some nice stretches of greatness.

It did make our DPOY pick Chet the betting favorite…but he’s another physiological anomaly so might be fighting fire with fire.

It's those additional 3 measly inches that can make or break a career.

I think I'm officially a "get off my lawn" old dude now.

So many players out injured, dudes that can't play b2b games. It's getting bad.

Just go to a 60 game season and be done with it. Gotta get these guys out there.

I'm off to watch Delly go 2-12 in an NBL game but at least he's out there, ah ah ah

Aside from the fact that 60 games would never happen because guys won't take pay cuts, players still wouldn't play 60. They'd play 45 and load manage the others. Players simply don't care about the game the same way they did before. Too much money involved.

I'm kinda iffy on the Nipple King, all offense with lackluster defense... not much of a playmaker either. I also don't trust the Hornets org to keep any player there healthy enough to play a full season.

To me heÂ’s a garden variety scoring wing. HeÂ’s a fine ball handler, not some elite playmaker, good scorer.

I just donÂ’t know whatÂ’s the upside. Brandon Ingram? HeÂ’s clearly not like a playmaking 2 way wing like Scottie or Jalen Johnson, or even a 2 way wing like Trey Murphy. All those guys are plus sized too at 6Â’8 or above heÂ’s only 6Â’6.

I had to look it up but knowing heÂ’s only 6Â’6 makes his profile worse for me

Just look across the NBA, how many 6Â’6 wings are there that are even all stars? Not many
