I thought I did well here and Ohtani was not the primary reason for the purchase. Seller also threw in a handful of additional cards which were never mentioned in his thread(s).

This was back when the boards were lively and it was surprising it didn't generate any interest over 3 days and bumping.

Hello folks,

Today I’m hesitating between selling three cards. I’m a bit short on funds to buy a better auto, so I need to sell one of these. All three are BGS-graded, and each has a 10 for the autograph.

First card: 2018 Five Star on-card auto /25 — BGS 9

Second: Goodwin Champions on-card auto #ASO (not the Kanji version ��) — BGS 8

Third: Clearly Authentic on-card auto black /75 — BGS 8.5

I need advice on which one would be the best to sell now and which two I should keep to sell later when the timing is better.

As a casual, low end collector, I would be a little different.

I would want just any Ohtani Rookie Auto, so, I would keep the Goodwin.

This is to maximize what else I can get for the PC.

This is from the eyes of a low end clector though. If you want which two will retain the highest value, I would say keep these two:

1) 2018 Five Star
2) clearly Authentic


Goodwin does have a good reputation of being low print though, so there is that.

Seems like it should have been a lot higher to me.

I am always amazed at how low Ichiro prices are.

Thanks to both of you. I know unlicensed cards are worth less, but I prefer the image, so it was a difficult choice for the aesthetics. Now it will be easier for me to sell the Goodwin. Thanks for the advice, mates!

Clearly authentic is not a conventional "card" and the auto doesn't show well. I'd actually keep the Goodwin. It's not a card that is airbrushed or a pajama.

Thanks, Trueblue, for the advice, much appreciated. I’ll sell the Clearly Black and keep the Five Star and the Goodwin for later.

As great as Ichiro is/was, I think having him on a card with Ohtani actually hurts the value, as hard as it is to believe. Maybe not to some hardcore Japanese collectors, but to the rest of the hobby crowd. Same with Trout/Ohtani cards (though 5-6 years ago Trout likely helped value a lot). People just want Shotime, and anyone else appearing on a card just isn't as appealing. Only exceptions are probably Ruth for past players and maybe Judge currently.

Seems crazy to say a card that sold for $158k should have gone for more, but I certainly thought it would go for more....especially being a 10/10. Though I guess being a red wave vs true red brings it down a little. And unless it's the glare/reflection, the auto may not be the greatest either.

I’m amazed the BC pitching orange 9.5 1/25 only did $230k

Very happy with what my hitting 9.5 9 auto brought in October in retrospect. Higher number than 230 with no fees
