Default Which baseball product has the best ROI?

Hey everyone,

I have been wondering which baseball products this year have had the best return on investment (ROI) for box/case breakers. Some of the members here spend thousands of dollars on Topps Triple Threads but not Bowman, for example.

I realize that the prices vary and that just when the product is released the eBay auctions for individual cards tend to be the highest. Also, in some sets, when several of the big pulls have been found, the prices go down (eg, once the Joe Jackson four-leaf clover cards were pulled from 2010 Sports Icons).

I'm sure there are some different viewpoints on this, so I thought I would throw it to you guys to offer some thoughts on which boxes or cases in 2012 or in recent years have had the best return on investment.

Thanks,
Michael

If you do not count your labor as worth anything per hour, Topps series 1, series 2 and update are consistent moneymakers the first week or so upon release. So basically, you just missed the boat on 2012 Update. It is alot of work and if you do not enjoy sorting and scanning thousands of cards, the modest profit you make will not be worth it.

The latest trend though in cases that appreciate in value without opening has been Topps products that were a dud the year before. So, if you have some friends in the distributor world who can give you real data about pre-orders, you can pretty much peg what products are loaded. It seems like there are a set number of hits that doesn't change and Topps will just increase or decrease how watered down the product will be with base cards depending on how many pre-orders there are. I think this is why we never get stated pack odds until the product actually hits the market.

If you plan on ripping and flipping any medium to high end products, you will, WITHOUT ANY DOUBT, lose money.

Ive been making money on LAST years Topps Update, if you can find it cheap enough. You need to do massive amounts of research and sort thousands of cards to make money flipping, at least I do. If I do not stay ahead of the curve by doing EXAUSTING amounts of homework, I would lose money for sure. People think it is just rip and flip, and it's not like that at all. More like know EVERYTHING about a product, disect it down to the bare bones while being as frugal as possible, know which cards to sell online and which to sell on your table at shows, and then hope for the best....GOOD LUCK
