Are you reading anything into her desire for a camera? Is there a reason you have not used a camera with her to date? Does she want to loan the camera to someone else sometimes, for just a few minutes, y'know....?

Just skip the digital camera and get her a DSLR camera. It costs more, but the pictures are so much better. You obviously need to purchase separate lenses and such, but they are great.

I've just got a Canon EOS Rebel. It took awhile to get used to and is bugger than a digital, but we'll worth it
