Looking for any information anyone may have on this Griffey I have and an idea on how much you think it is worth
![]() WHAT DO YOU THINK VALUE IS AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS CARD OR BELIEVE THE STORY IS? After a little searching I found this site below showing the set checklist and a little info about each insert/parallel set. I have searched but have never seen another like it! 2001 Donruss - BaseballCardPedia.com Since Ken Griffey, Jr. was under an exclusive autograph contract to Upper Deck, Donruss was unable to have him autograph any of his cards. These two insert/parallel sets come to mind since it falls in the serial # range. *Diamond Kings Reprints Autographed. - (serial #'d from 82 to 89) *Rookie Reprints Autographed - (serial #'d from 82 to 92) So was this card supposed to be autographed by Griffey as a Rookie Reprint Autograph but was unsigned like the DK Reprint auto since he had an exclusive contract only with UD? ![]() * There is no damage to the surface or lettering - the lighting from the picture makes it look that way *

This ones a little out of my realm. I saw the /1989 one so I would assume they just made a non auto limited edition one to match the rest of the set. Check baseballcardpedia on this. There is a Griffey thread on fcb with some collectors who collect these years as well. A nice find regardless!

That would have been a sweet card in that auto set!

You're pretty much spot on in the OP. They made an auto'd parallel version and every other card in the set had an auto'd version, but since Griffey was under contract with UD, he could not sign the copy /89. I had one back in the day, but sold it (maybe in the lot I sold to you joeypeapod).

Beckett online has it listed as "2001 Donruss Rookie Reprints Parallel #RR27 Ken Griffey Jr. /89" and then has another entry for the /1989 version that is identical other the the print run and the word "parallel." I do not have any idea on the value and I don't have a Beckett sub so I don't know what number their dart hit when they threw it.
Nice card! |

$50 might be a bit high, but I haven't followed Griffey inserts other than the super high end stuff. I was thinking in the $25-$30 range.
I see a McGwire sold for $23ish recently, so maybe Griffey is closer to $50 after all.

I have a feeling baseball is getting ready to follow basketball's lead. The early pre 2002 inserts are the next wave of high dollar collectable cards. IMO

Low # Griffey inserts on avg sell 20-30% above Jeter sans some 96s up until 00, some 01. Newer stuff I have no idea tho.

Bethany, your friend is mistaken as Jeter is not in the set.
Everyone is on the right track with this. The parallel to the rookie reprint set, which is numbered to the year of the card, came in either autographed or non-autographed form. This depended on whether or not they signed for various reasons like Griffey being under contract with Upper Deck as was pointed out. For whatever reason, David Wells does not have a parallel in either form and was substituted out by the Luis Gonzalez autograph. Most of the autographs were redemptions and not pack issued. They redeemed autographs are tougher than most people realize. On a side note, 2001 Donruss was my favorite set during that era and I have most of the regular insert sets, including the redemptions from those sets. A couple of those are near impossible to find. One I have not seen in any form in over 10 years and according to the serial numbering it should be easy to find. |

01 Donruss was my favorite set too. I opened a ton of the stuff and tried putting the set together with the rated rookies...missing the Pujols, Sheets and a few common RR's. I pulled a redemption for a Ripken DK auto reprint as well...was an awesome card.

if I were to list it for sale auction style on eBay, what would be the best way to list the title?

I wouldn't list it on auction. I would put it on as a bin/obo as you never know who might be on to find an auction. You might only get a few bucks out of it in auction form. IMHO it would be worth the 30 cents to do it that way.
The only reprint auto I ever pulled was the Wells/Gonzalez. However I did pull the McGwire Elite Dominator/25. Those were going for crazy money when they came out as people were putting sets together. I also pulled 2 Baseball's Best set redemptions and bought a third (2 Bronze and a silver set resulted). I did have to buy the Pujols and Sheets redemptions for the Regular set as well as the Sheets redemption for the 2000 Retro set and the DK Reprint Clark redemption. I pulled the Sabathia 2000 Retro redemption. Those sets as well as several other insert sets are complete. |

I appreciate the input, so you think $99.99 Obo? Or higher/lower?
And how would you list the title of the listing? Last edited by bcarlson33; 11-14-2014 at 09:44 PM. |

Copy and paste the Beckett description and run a 7 day auction ending Sunday or Thursday night at 10pm. In my experience of selling 3 Griffey collections off auction gets you the most money. List it with 10-15 other rare Griffey cards and you are golden.
