SCI seems like a genuinely good person who enjoys what he’s doing. I actually don’t mind him he seems like good people but I’m not at all interested in his content. He generally has no clue what he’s talking about and I cannot stand people who don’t know how to pronounce and continually butcher players names

I watch his vids and think he generally provides good information on the market.

Still don't like how he responded to his trimmed Jordan rookie BGS 9.5 on these forums though. "I have to trust Beckett" (So convenient)
Interestingly he just did a top 10 favorite cards of his and he now has a PSA 10 Jordan rookie. I wonder if he sold the trimmed Jordan 9.5

It isn't as bad as Lootbox TV who came in with the Zion Williamson boom from Pokemon and still to this day call him Zion Williams. Like, it bothers me to a point I can't explain. People like them flooding into sports cards priced me out of my hobby and they still can't remember or read the name of the guy that brought them in.

Don’t worry, it looks like we are returning to sanity and you’ll be priced back in soon, hopefully. Maybe one day I’ll order a box to open by myself again, mayyyyybe

They seem like really nice guys but it was funny at the beginning of their sports card breaks when they would bust 90's stuff and get so excited about players/cards that were like $5 cards. They spend soooo much on product.

I feel like in like 5 years there should be a "Where are they now" on Youtube stars. or "True Youtube story" so we can see how in debt they actually are from all the content hungry breaks.

My guess is that most of the new people to the hobby who are all over IG/Youtube/FB flexing their collections and how much wax they bust are wildly overleveraged.

In 10 years 90% of these people will be broke.

He was on LeBatard's 24 Hour Marathon a couple weeks back to evaluate Ron Magill's cards and at one point hijacked the segment to show off his collection...while quoting months old pricing to make them seem more valuable than they are. Just a total cornball through and through.

I agree - the production value of his videos is great. Just wish he provided more helpful (accurate?) information. To me he comes off more as a cornball dad than a sleazeball/scammer.

Hate to break it to you but group breakers are what have priced people out of the hobby.

Agreed he is like the guy that always talks about the 9 leg parlay he hit to win $$$ but doesn't say that he lost 20X that to hit it. He is passionate about the hobby if anything, and his successes and work in his career have let him overspend on cards that he wants.

I don't even know how someone could consider him a scammer haha.

His production quality is excellent, he does a great job of creating content as well.

He's obviously really good at what he's doing because his brand has exploded. Good for him. It's hard to come into a space where you have little to no experience and basically create a massive brand with a large following in a year

Default Agreed

Now the pricing of product is baked in for a 30 - 32 slot break unfortunately.

For sure. And, despite buying at the wrong times, owning a PSA 10 86 Jordan and the complete Topps Chrome LeBron Refractor set in PSA 10 are awesome holds - it won't surprise me if it works out in the long run. But short term, yikes, and definitely shows he's behind the curve.

In one of his videos at a card show he kept talking about wanting to buy up Kobe because of the HOF and the documentary - but by the time the video dropped Kobe's prices tanked. Again, maybe he'll win out in the long run, but his plays seem very basic despite having somewhat of the right idea.

Yea I think he's learned some very expensive lessons

It's cultural hegemony as we all line up for the next group break...and YT channels continue to spit the hype.

People actually think this guy "knows" the hobby and "knows" cards?

I was also surprised to see that he purchased a PSA 10 Jordan after he uploaded the video last year raving about the "elite subs" of the BGS 9.5 he had purchased at the 2019 National that is tied to Block. Unless I missed it, he never did produce the video he promised informing "investors" about the card trimming scandal and what to look for.

Saw him and his small team at the Dallas show. I feel schmucks like being around “YouTube celebs” and hang onto their words. I recall a collector asking if buying Kobe autos were smart buys. His response…”buy the dip, always buy the dip” and everyone in line for coffee thought it was Jesus giving the response. I don’t get it… but overall it’s been incredible for those buying/selling/collecting.

This is exactly what confuses me. Guy knows nothing about the hobby, he's been "collecting" (if you can even call it that) for like 3 years max. Then you have a bunch of people here saying he's a "nice guy".. What does that have to do with anything? lol

If i'm going to put my faith in card investment advice, or really anything for that matter, where you are going to be spending big money, i'm hoping the guy on the other end of the camera has some years worth of knowledge about the market he's blabbering on about. Through the ups and downs especially, because even the most novice investor should be aware most established markets don't go up (or down) forever. This dude came in when the market was hot and 90% of his advice was backed up simply because the market as whole was hot. Now that it's cooling down we find out he's paid the top price ever for one of the most overhyped cards in the hobby.. That alone should tell you how good his investment strategies really are.

Or just, come up with your own conclusions as to what is a good buy or not? Aggregate all of the information available and make the decision that's right for you.

He's a businessman that is making money off of another business venture, just happens to be the sports card industry.

No more knowledgeable than any of us but hes got a great team to create all of this content and sell his story.
