Oh no doubt. Watching Jalen Green take 30 attempts only to abandon for another dunk was a waste of 10 minutes. Kareem got up and left in the middle of it.

A dunk contest next year of Mitchell, Ja, Giannis, and a healthy Zion would probably set records for viewing in a dunk contest, especially given how starved fans are for a star studded cast. Heck, throw Lavine or Edwards (who already said it won’t happen) in there and it would still break records.

That was Mitchell’s rookie year when he entered, he wasn’t a superstar yet at that point. I can’t remember the last time a true superstar actually competed. You honestly might have to go all the way back to 2000 when Vince Carter won.

I get that. He wasn’t a superstar then, but he at least had a lot of buzz and was a name worth watching based on what he was doing on the court as a rookie. Can’t say that for anyone else really the last 5 years.

Yeah... Mitchell wasn't even the biggest name in the competition at the time.

Victor Oladipo, who was actually an all star that year as well as All-NBA 3rd team, participated as well.

Jalen Green still has a decent amount of hype, probably just as much if not more than Mitchell had at that time, he just performed terribly in the contest. Mitchell was a surprise breakout rookie that year and he outperformed just about everyone’s expectations, so it’s not like it was a crazy thing to have him compete that year.

Wow, I totally forgot Oladipo was All-NBA 3rd team at one point. He has really fallen off the face of the earth with all those injuries, and it feels like he’s on a different team every season.

I mean I guess as far as Green being a #2 pick but based off of actual play is what mitchelll got his hype off of at the time. I’m not saying he was a household name but basketball fans were excited to see him in that event bc of the breakout rookie year. I guess that’s all I’m trying to say.
