Just thought I’d throw this here. Interesting article as I have waited constantly for all this SmartPost stuff this year.

Thanks for sharing
A good read
I have been wondering why it takes them over a month to get topps product across the country while UPS can do it in a week.

I have fanatics orders delivered through fedex that i’m still waiting on that were ordered:

10/14
10/19
10/20

as well as my topps aoki boxes. fedex is brutal delivering to the PNW.

Interesting but I have had the opposite experience. Except for a few overly late packages from Topps (an anomaly and not the norm) FedEx has done pretty good. UPS on the other has screwed up the SurePost by sending to the Post Office as the final destination when I have upgraded to ground shipping. Several packages have been smashed with damaged product. And the logistics of going through the final destination location several times before final delivery is insane and inefficient.

So did I.

Here is a photo of my two sealed boxes and the Aoki card.

I finally opened up the sealed box from Topps and was about to throw away the internal packaging when all-of-a-sudden the Aoki card fell to the floor.

I think the real question is what will the renewal and new membership prices for 2022 be? Last year it was $200 & $300.

I'm guessing at least 2x price increase for both. Those 100% pure flippers are in for a rude awakening.

If MLB had extended their relationship with Topps, I'd be confident Topps would still make the membership worth it, regardless of an increased renewal fee.

Now that there's no more license, who knows. Topps has given members a lot of unexpected bonuses. Obviously hope that continues, but they're really only obligated to give us what they state on the sign up/renewal page.

Price will be the same. We're paying for the sets. Being able to buy a couple of boxes before the general public cost topps nothing. It would be different if we were getting a discount. Topps has been very fair with this club. Sure they raised the prices on a few offerings, but that has been on the high end stuff for the most part. When Topps dresses F1 sapphire and GPL going for 5 to 10x release prices, it makes sense for them to take their cut

Yeah big concern is what's the value in the club if you can buy the same exact boxes the following day in public sales at the same price??? As the year went on this was the case and probably due just to increased print runs + increased prices. If this continues through 2022 then I don't see the value in the sets at the membership price.

Print runs or less desirable products releasing recently? GPK, F1, etc were definitely small print runs in comparison. But using Topps Chrome Sapphire, etc. as a barometer is not the best comparison IMO.

Was thinking yesterday: what if they kill the club or make it all encompassing and like a $2500 buy instead? Sets + boxes? They could do either or none of those, but to assume no real change since 2018 is likely incorrect.

Well F1 & UEFA Soccer don't pump out RCs at the same cadence as baseball, football, & soccer do. The best possible releases of those sports have already been seen. I doubt MC ever sees a GPK release with there being a separate GPK club.

Unpopular opinion but I thought the same myself. Topps could do away with the club and just focus on selling everything in public sales. The sets, pre-releases, complaints, etc. could be done away with during the final year of MLB. And then come up with a different plan or club that focuses on the rest of the products Topps will carry (F1, UEFA, GPK, SW, etc.).

They get $200/$300 bucks from ??? number of people up front. Pretty good deal for them.

I’m going to pass this year. I think they will sell the membership and then in December they will release a separate soccer club. I’m in on the soccer..
Not going to continue with GPK club either but I hope we get a sapphire drop on that next month.

Yeah, no doubt like Amazon Prime and other similar services. Collect a few million dollars in subscription fees AND sell out your product. Seems like a win-win, would be a head scratcher for them to stop. Basic economics 101.

If this were the case, I'd pass on 582 and buy into soccer (if I'm quick enough to get a membership).

But passing on 582 without knowing they will do something separate with UEFA/F1 isn't worth the risk.

Maybe they'll open up future UEFA/F1 clubs to 582 members first. Ha!

Absolutely, they won’t cut the program.

If anything, they do at least one of the following (possibly more):
- Increase annual membership charge
- Add new memberships
- Increase product price
- Create more products (e.g., new Sapphire/Chrome products of existing brands and/or new products overall)

"Now that there's no more license," You mean the license that runs out in 2025? I think a 2022 Montgomery Club membership should still be a safe bet assuming they don't raise the price too much and they don't split off soccer. The soccer sapphire box was probably the best deal all year long.
