A lot to think about before I even consider it.
In the grand scheme of things 2 hours back and forth isn’t that bad. When I worked in Manhattan I used the commute to clear my head and work on things I could take care of so it wasn’t wasted time.

I did a hour+ commute for 7 1/2 years when I was teaching and coaching. It wasn't bad most days, but those days when it was bad I felt like parking my car and just walking into the woods never to return.

It is ridiculous. At one time, I was losing a temporary position within my company and had to decide to move to another contract and take a $15K pay cut or get a job with a competitor for the same pay. I moved on to the competitor for 7 years before returning to my original company after the new one decided not to go after the contract I was on.

It would seem like an hour drive down your way wouldn't be too bad though. Put everything in a Pros and Cons list though and go from there.

I think I want to build the 92/93 Beam Team set. I remember as a kid thinking that set was the coolest thing ever, but the cards always seemed to be more than I could afford. Looks like I can get all but Jordan and Shaq for a few dollars these days. Maybe I go after a PSA 8 or better set.

Got a call from the High School to see if I wanted to be present and give away the Scholarship we give away for kids going into Early Childhood Education.

I told them I had written something but I doubt it would be appreciated.

I relayed the last time I did the presentation in person

Pre pandemic and one year during my little speech something my mother in law, who was a teacher said.

Someone who calls themselves an Educator put the emphasis on themself.
Someone who calls themselves a Teacher puts the emphasis on the students.

A couple of the teachers came up to me after the assembly and liked what I said. I heard unofficially that some of the EDUCATORS were not happy with what I said.

When I told the head of guidance this she told me to send what I wanted to say.

It is all based on my daughter, who is generally considered one of the 3 best teachers in her school, not having a job next year because of the number of years worked.

My presentation was going to say to do something you love but remember life is not fair.
Do something that rewards you on merit, not time worked.

If the something you love is a position that is collectively bargained, like teaching, merit and being very good at your job, will mean nothing in the long run except to you and the children you teach and have an impact on. When belts have to be tightened it doesn't matter how good you are only how long you have been employed.

The head of guidance thanked me for my honesty but thought it wasn't a good idea for me to say that. I agreed.

Very understandable, once when the bus was caught in the tunnel due to a wreck and I was trapped there for 2 hours I would’ve taken being anywhere else.

Heck in Mississippi I could probably live off of 30,000’a year if I were single but most places it is a very hard pill to swallow. Money definitely takes precedence over loyalty in today’s economy.

I got called into meetings with district higher ups several times for publicly stating that cuts should start with the district office where people had made up positions making 6 figures and not in the classrooms with teachers giving everything they have to kids every day. I lead a walkout at a board meeting held at our school, with all the local news channels present, when they started talking budget cuts after discussing raises for district office staff. That got me several meetings with all kind of people in suits. 1 of which was the district attorney who quickly changed his tune when I said I wasn't saying anything else without my personal attorney present. Meeting ended right there.

I was told it "wasn't my place to make statements like that" and that "people at the district office did not like my words". I told them I really didn't care what people at the district office, who were making more money in 1 year than the teachers made in 4, thought of my opinion of them.

The district office might have thrown a party when I left.

I wasn’t into the beam teams in basketball or baseball until I pulled a Gary Carter beam team autograph and that changed my mind.

Beats me.
Has FCG ever hinted where he lives in Florida?
Smash the JBLRQ button and see if the they can match IP addresses.
