They started the third with terrible defense, turnovers, and bad shooting which snowballed into a 17-0 run.

Even though the Suns lost game 4, Monty inserting Biyombo in the 4th quarter to experiment paid dividends last night. He's a more adept defender in PnR scenarios vs. Luka than Ayton or McGee. Expect that to continue.

Additionally, the Suns were pretty comfortable allowing Luka into the paint and not collapsing too hard and leaving the role players WIDE open for 3's. You could say they didn't "show up" but that's ignoring the fact that the Suns changed their tactics and made their shots just a touch more difficult.

Let's see how the Mavs regroup.

Luka has this weird trait of driving to the basket, in position to have good chance of making a basket, but then leaps and fires a pass to a contested teammate on the perimeter who has low chance of making anything happen.

I noticed he did that a couple times last night. My only thought is that he's hoping for a foul call and unprepared to take a shot (unless it's a shot after a foul) so he has to ditch it. Needs to clean that up.

PHO double teamed the ball handler outside the 3 point line whether it was Luka, Brunson, or Dinwiddie. And we're somehow able to guard the other 4 players standing around the 3 point line waiting for a pass as well.They need movement cut to the basket or post up inside don't just stand still. They weren't open enough for a shot let alone receive a pass for the 3 ball

Hoping the Mavs can take Game 6 at home as it would be pretty fun to see Luka in a G7. Always that chance he goes full God mode and can will his team to an improbable W, which gives them at least a puncher's chance in PHX

Odd how all the young highest priced hobby darlings (Herbert, Luka, Ja Morant) have trouble once the playoffs come. Kind of shows that even the best young players in the league need Robins. Or more time. Obviously each players reason for not having playoff success is different, just maybe a point that the "hyped" players may not always be worth the premium.

I wouldn't say Luka is having trouble. I believe he is only behind Jordan in career playoff average and most people had Phoenix(the best team in the NBA) winning in 5 and the series is still going. I think it's more that some people have expectations way too high. Luka is 23 and pushing his team hard against the best team in the league. I think he is right on schedule and if they somehow pull off the next 2 games, he is ahead of schedule.

Morant has been sensational
Luka has been sensational the last two years
Herbert has not played in the playoffs

I would strongly disagree these guys have had “trouble”. I would agree each players teams reason for playoff success is different.

I'll agree with this, and even say that most people don't look at it the way you put it. Most let the peaks and valleys of the market dictate our sentiment, often losing sense of the big picture.

Look, round 2 is when a lot of guys suffer and get exposed. All star lever guys. Luka hasn't struggled much despite going up against a top team. While I think you could say that there are area's of improvement to make in his game, I don't think the Suns have exposed many outright holes in it.

A loss in Game 6 of round 2 still means progress was made this year. A win in Game 6 means we get to a Game 7, where anything can happen.
