I agree with you on that. I mean just look at the championships they won with Durant on the team. It was obvious to everyone that Durant was by far the best player on the court and has the MVP trophies to show it!

Do any of these players make the playoffs with Brunson, Dinwiddie and Finney-Smith as the 2-4 best players on their team? Curry, Giannis, Booker, Tatum, Butler, Morant? Maybe, but conference finals, probably not. Luka has had a phenomenal and successful season despite the clueless and negative comments from a few of the forum’s basement dwellers. Hopefully they can get a solid big man to help with the middle and take the next step in 2022-23. As a day 1 Mavs fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this season and still can’t believe Luka is this great at age 23.

Why all the down faces around here? Yeah it sucks to see Luka and the Mavs getting their asses handed to them by a totally superior team from top to bottom. But this has been a great year for Luka and the Mavs and there's no way we should be disappointed in this run. At the beginning of the year it was "The Mavs have to get out of the first round" for it to be a successful year. they did that easily. Then went on to beat a heavily favored team in round 2 to make it to the WCF. So there is absolutely nothing to be disappointed about here. Regroup in the off-season and come back stronger.
Definitely need to make a few moves to bring in a capable big man, I like Brunson but don't think they should overpay to bring him back, Kelber, Bullock, Powell can all go. THJ will be back and I think we can definitely build around Luka, Dinwiddie, & THJ. If we can hit on a few key pick ups I think we are in good shape. Just my 2 cents

Good post and I agree. They had a much better year than I expected. Someone mentioned in another post trying to pick up Ayton. I say no way: he's too soft. |

And that's what they want. These guys who come in here and spew garbage only when luka and or the mavs lose or have bad games don't care about the mavs or Luka either way..they just want to get under people's skin for whatever reason..fulfills their lives..who knows. And they know how easy it is to accomplish their mission with fans of the team or player. It's easier said than done to ignore it and they know that. One reaction from any of us is all the justification they need and they'll always get one and I'm just as guilty of it as anyone

No Ayton. Too much money to not put them over the top. I’d rather get Mitchell Robinson. A true big who is a rim protector and would be a nightmare in the PNR with Luka. I think he has a lot of untapped potential that Kidd can get to.

Luka, Dinwiddie, and Brunson combined for 86 points. The rest of the team couldn't muster a measly 24 points.

That’s usually an okay number for them. Getting only 9 points on 22 shots from Bullock, DFS, and Maxi is what did them in.

I expected them to perform better against GS after they won the regular season series this year and with GS looking all sorts of old throughout the year, but I also didn't expect the role guys to shoot this poorly. If the team shoots their season average they probably win games 2 and 3 but the lesson is not putting all your trust into role guys when it really matters. |

Mo Bamba might be a target too. Dude underperformed with Orlando but was showing signs of life this season and maybe getting back to Texas would psych him up.

Most of us in this thread are pulling for Luka and we want to believe they're on the doorstep of a chip. But honestly, they are a few key pieces away. Because of the Luka, I think the Mavs are in a better position compared to Trae and the Hawks a year ago. But if they think they can just run it back with this team next year, they could end up like the Hawks, who fell well short of expectations this season.

It's the lack of a big man and nothing inside when they can't make outside shots. It's great to have a lot of shooters but when you have nights they don't fall it's hard to watch like yesterday. DFS, Bullock, posting up inside? When do they ever do that? They were desperate to try and get some easy buckets inside but they don't have the personal. That's not what these guys have practiced or been trained to do. All the best teams have a capable big man or two.
That and i think they need to tweak the offense a little. They need some guys cutting instead of all standing around waiting for a 3 pointer. Set some screens off the ball. The pick n roll is good but they could also do the same thing off the ball and get some cutting action to the hoop. |

Here’s a painful stat.
Luka is averaging 14.3 potential assists per game this series. He averages 5 assists per game. That’s 35%. The only player with a worse conversion during this round is Dinwiddie at 32%. Just unbelievable how terrible that is. For context, against the Suns it was 7.0 of 14.0 (50%). Against the Jazz it was 5.7 of 12.3 (46%). In the regular season it was 8.7 of 17.0 (51%).

substitute Michael Jordan in his prime for Luka on this Dallas team and this Dallas team is still not getting past Golden State.
