No Cy but in 1990 Bobby Thigpen (who?) saved 57 games for White Sox, finished 4th in Cy and 5th in MVP voting.

Bob Welch won the Cy Young winning 27 games, playing for the juggernaut As.

I didn’t remember Welch being anything special but he would finish with 211 Wins which today would be incredible.

I feel Shohei's pitching future is in being the best closer in the league, less stress on his arm, can focus on hitting. With this pitching staff he is very valuable to the Dodgers as a closer. He already proved he is elite in the WBC. I just hope that if and when Dodgers starters have injuries they will not try to "stretch" him out to returning to starting, make him the league's best closer and leave him there.

Still want to see him as a starter for at least the next few years, he can move to closer when he’s baseball old.

I think I prefer to see him as a closer too, smashing bombs and crushing the other team's hopes for a comeback.

HR king, Saves title AND Cy Young?

To be fair analytics were not what they are today. The odds of a reliever getting it are extremely small thanks to advanced metrics.

The year Gagne won he had 3.7 WAR when Mark Prior had 7.4 WAR.
Dennis Eckersley had 2.9 WAR to Roger Clemens 8.8 WAR.

Just don't see it happening ever again.

The fact that this is even a ‘remote’ possibility is just bananas.

Looks like Shohei wants the cards that Ippei bought on ebay and whatnot. Anybody remember what was in there?

I think there are two parts to what Ohtani wants back.

1. $325k worth of baseball cards that Ippei bought online (doesn't mention where that includes Ohtani autos or not).

2. Ohtani cards that Ohtani personally signed for Ippei.

Yes as I read closer it seems like he bought $325k worth of cards but also had a bunch of autos illegally in his possession which I'm guessing are redemptions Ohtani signed. I'm glad there is hobby relevance in the interpreter story.

Imagine if you had sold your cards to Ippei, and now those cards are going to be in Ohtani's possession (if they can retrieve them).
Kind of cool to think that a card you once sold might end up being in the hands of Sho.
Though I assume he won't actually hold them or really see them much.

A few of us did. I mostly feel bad that I was (unwittingly) the recipient of Ohtani's stolen money.

What was Ippei’s eBay account name?
Did he have several different accounts?
I believe I saw a post mentioning it before, but can’t remember.

'Jay Miz' was one of his aliases. Angels_546

Such an underrated comment. This would be absolutely bonkers.

I have long imagined what Shohei’s value would have been in the pre-DH National League. Pitcher spot due up in the 7th? We got a guy, but he’s standing in front of the bullpen at the moment. Maddon-era Cubs did make the short list of approved suitors back in late 17 or whenever.

Not sure we'll ever see him run wild on the basepaths again like he did this year, but I've also come to expect the unexpected!
