$500 cards are easier to sell at shows than $3k cards, sure, but I haven't found any issues with selling 4-figure cards [or even 5] at big shows like Philly.
You just need to have the demand, which can be one person. If you can't move weight at a big show, you're doing it wrong. But, obviously, cards are not stocks and never will be.

The card show I am going to go to, after passing up two local, is distinguished only by having a trade night. I do want to see whether anyone wants to horse wrangle and, if so, what they lay on the table as equivalent.
I don't think with any one of the three or four young guns on the Pacers, with their step-in possibilities, and the increased network exposure Carlisle and the front office will deservedly demand (at least having people in Indiana able to easily access home games) you can go from comps. If I can triangulate from Nesmith to a proven such as say Ja or AD, then I think I can work toward some mid-tier Kobe and MJ, maybe an auto, that are bankable for US currency. Is this how it's still done?

It is still difficult to sell to dealers at a show. Dealers still expect significant discounts for even the most liquid cards.
Trade nights are fun if you can go comp for comp. |

or player to player... just ask that guy on YouTube... for him some random Kings player from 2013 has way more value than it does to a Malik Monk collector.
I think that Dealers have a distinct role. They bring out and present the very best, as a quasi retailer. Of course they are extremely limited in selection and super stingy in buying. Bet if you have a 1/1 of a desired player or like they still comp fair. Just want their easy 20 percent.

I agree with amigo, but curious why do you think an auction is always better to sell big cards for max value?

I don’t buy or sell expensive cards so I don’t know any of this but theoretically, if multiple parties are interested in a particular card I would think you could get a higher value if you have them competing vs doing a single private sale
